(The stuff you can buy at tractor supply
)
Im going to take my alley sour mare to a few races in the next few weeks and donate some $ to the exhibition pot just to get her in the pen without making a run and I was thinking about trying a calming paste to see if it would help her. I have heard calf calm has put a few show pigs to sleep LOL. Just wondering if I would be wasting my money on stuff like this?

I used to use Calm N Cool on my show gelding who would randomly hear voices at certain arenas. It worked very well on him. It was available at TSC, so probably the same stuff
(tryptophan was the active ingredient
). I've also used VitaCalm from TSC on a couple. Small dose on my boy's horse at jackpots just to keep her focused. Large dose on young horses that want to overthink everything their first few trips to town. Started using it last year when I was seasoning a young mare that was TERRIFIED of the trains in the switch yard near a local arena. It helped her a lot.

the horse needs to be totally relaxed to give it and work. if you give it ,saddle up and go to warming up. Its not going to work, but have the opposite effect. wired like a wild banshee.

Thanks guys!
I ended up giving it at 4pm
(per the instructions
) when I was expecting to ride at 6pm. I do think that it helped her. She still got visibly worked up, but was flat footed, and had absolutely no issues going into the arena. I used Calmex. It was $12 I think. If this is going to be a normal thing I do from now on, I might look into buying several tubes online to save some $
