Anyone have any experience with this feed? I took my old man to the vet for yearly stuff and he wasnt happy with how fat he is lol! Its actually not funny.. but still. He recommends purina well solve (he recommends that to every one I know that's taken their horse there) I've tried that feed before when he was first diagnosed with ringbone, we needed to get weight off him, the horse hated it. And i felt it was expensive for what it was.. almost $36 a bag. Hes fat.. hes actually obese... so I went to the feedstore to see what my options were and the TC lite was recommended by them. Its $22 a bag and only fed at 2 lbs per day. I told them I'd look into it before buying it. Seems like a really nice alternative to the WS and from what I've read, even picky horses eat it up no problem.
I feed the Triple crown Lite to my IR gelding and mini for going on 3 years now, I''m adding boost'em to it now for my gelding, I think it looks like a boring feed for him but he eats it since he dont have no choice so adding the boost'em and a half cup of senor care so his supplement and Med will stick and make it more fun for him to eat, lol. he cant go out on pasture anymore because of the sugar so thats why I have added the boost'em, the boost'em is a halfcup. The Lite has helped me keep him better on track. His vet really liked how the Triple Crown Lite has helped him threw this IR mess.
I picked up a bag.. you're right it does look like a boring feed lol! He seemed to like it tho .. course I had it mixed in with the sr feed .
I have had good luck with it on easy keepers and horses with IR issues.
I have a mildly IR horse that gets TC Lite. He gets a pound a day and looks fabulous. He's a moderately picky eater and will eat it but doesn't love it.
You might consider Triple Crown Sr. It’s about 10% NSC and horses eat it well. An easy keeper would probably do well on 1.5 - 2# per day with good hay.
He hates the TC lite too.. but will eat it when hes got nothing else. It will take him all day to eat a pound. Eventually he cleans it up. I started adding just a handful of the bluebonnet sr therapy to it just to entice him, but hes pretty good at picking that out and leaving the lite behind. I may just end up giving him a small amount of the BB sr to save my sanity. Hes not a using horse so I guess I shouldn't worry about too much him. Hes plenty porky right now.
I've fed it in the past, but I prefer to use TC 30% ration balancer in these cases. Super low NSC and low fat. Only need to feed 1lb per day to a horse with a low work load.
