Does anyone on here have security cameras around their farm? My husband and I have been less than impressed with the random druggies that have shown up at our farm over the last few years. We had scary encounter again last night. We want to get some security cameras to place on the outside of our garage and barn. Does anyone have any recommendations of a system that does not cost a ton and will withstand Midwest outdoor weather? Something that I can look at on my phone and something that is possibly recorded and I go back and show law enforcement if something should happen.
Note to everyone – living on a large acreage on a busy county highway outside of a town with a jail and a mental institute is not the best, even when the acreage was a perfect fit…..
Arlo. But they need wifi. You can look at a live feed or the recordings on your phone. No monthly fee, completely weather proof. I have had mine outside in the elements for at least 3 years and no problems. They are wireless so you charge them (depending on use) about every 3-4 months. I love them.
If you dont have access to internet or power you could always use a trail cam or something like that but not sure youd be able to pull them up on your phone but you never know now days there is probably something out there. That is scary and good luck!
How much money are you willing to put into a security system? I have the Night Owl camera system and it works well. It has an app you download on your phone and it will send you notifications when there is motion detected. You can also view the cameras on the app. You also get four cameras with the system but you have the option to add several more if you choose. The system can record and playback, so it is perfect in case you need to submit footage to law enforcement.
I think we would easily be willing to drop $500 without batting an eye for some piece of mind!
You will barely get an Arlo setup for $500. Plus they will need to be charged and easily ripped off. If you are not going to go hard wired security consider Blink before Arlo. We have both and I think Blink is better with longer battery life.
We use Front Point security for our home and farm buildings. We live on our farm and thankfully, have hard-wired high-speed Internet access. We have outdoor cameras covering our shop and barn (the cameras are located in places difficult to see and impossible to reach unless you have an exentsion ladder and can climb beyond that.) We are very pleased with the service and coverage. The night-time infrared works really well. We have signs posted around our property regarding Video Security in place and active. Our shop is equipped with door alarms and motion alarms. It's like a Fort! LOL! And we have extremely heavy-duty tongue locks on our three trailers. Perhaps our best deterrent in our rural area is the fact my husband and I both have reputations as extremely good shots with pistols and long guns. Folks know I've backed off two guys with my gun skills while traveling alone with horses. I'm a lot of trouble! LOL!!!!
I went to Bestbuy and spent $450. I had two problems. 1. I had to have good internet/cellphone service. 2. They were motion sensor. My internet is sketchy at best and I have the next door neighbors from hell. They shoot my horses, dog etc. but they are not close enough to set off a camera. Had to take that back to Bestbuy. I found a system that is on 24/7 on Amazon for $250. The only problem is the cameras are not battery operated and have to plug in. I just ran extension cords. You can get this to work with internet and look at it on your cell phone. Also you need to be aware that there is a fee for being to access your security system on your cell phone. My records what is going on outside even at night. You can go back and review anything you want. You can save anything important to a flash drive. It does reset on the first of every month and erases everything. It has a 120 degree viewing range. My idiot neighbors think they think they are motion sensor and TRIED to slip up and take pictures of them. I did save that on a flash drive! Too funny. I would really like to know what they work so hard to hide! Need to add that I will have to figure out the brand. And want to add that my neighbor and his son who lives one house farther down are both felons and are no even supposed to have guns
