A helmet is like the shin guards in that you are protected just in case you may need them.

I will admit that I considered wearing one for years but always had some excuse as to why I had yet to get one. Well this past November a family member got a head injury, not horse related, but it was a real wake up call for me. My children were so distraught over what had happened. I ordered a helmet that week and now I ride in it all the time, even at home. I don't even think about it anymore - I love my helmet! I bought the Troxel with the brown leather… very comfy.

I wear those too.....UNDER my jeans so they are a tinge less conspicuous as my shiny silver helmet.  But hey, i'm still one of the cool kids.  LOL Maybe i'm just trying to live up to the Tin Foil Hat stigma we created so long ago.....

I wear one also. Was bucked off in August-concussion/stitches-I always wear one now! If I would have had one on, I would not have been as injured as I was.

I highly recommend the Tipperary Sportage!

I don't know if the picture will work but here is my helmet. I never wore one but forced my children to. (still do for that matter). I saw a terrible accident in August, it was my first time in public wearing my helmet. I was so glad to be wearing mine that day and will continue to compete wearing one. I decided it was pretty silly for me to force my children yet I didn't wear one. My oldest daughter caught me on it and said "why do I have to if you don't" Good question...So I wear one now. Probably a good thing too since I fractured my skull in October and have a dent in my forehead from a farm accident, LOL! Maybe I should wear mine 24/7 :)

Like the picture. Here's a pic from October. Helmets are so comfortable these days.

My grandmother bought all the grandkids helmets when I was about 5 years old. My mom bought one too. She said if she is going to force us to wear them, then she will wear one too.

I hated it growing up, but now I can't imagine not wearing one and I am very thankful I had a helmet on when my filly tripped and rolled over me a few years back, knocking me unconscious. I can't image how bad I would have been hurt if I didn't have my helmet on.

There's been many times that I've been glad I've had my helmet on .... simply walking around the trailer on foot!!! Those danged goosenecks will get you. ;-)
