Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | I've always been told that (colored) red hair fades fast! Well, two weeks ago I colored my hair a shade of red and it's already starting to fade. Is there anything I can do to keep it from fading? Or something to put in to restore the color?! |

Location: Texas | Get a color enhancing shampoo if you can. If not at least get a color protective one. Red is the hardest color to keep bright and vibrant. |

Location: California | When I had my hair dark auburn or red red I used a red color enhancing shampoo and conditioner and added red dye into my conditioner , but make sure you wear gloves when applying. Red seems to be inevitable which is why I will never dye it that color again. The fade is hard to keep up with. |

| My best friend is a cosmetologist and does my hair all the time. I'm a natural blonde and my hair fades very quickly when going dark. Obviously she hooks me up with all the great products for the cost she gets them at...but my hair still always fades. This last time, she colored my hair dark brown with some hints of red tone in it, I waited about 2 weeks or so and she re-colored it again....this second time it was SUPER dark but it ended up fading into the color I really liked and I still have the shimmery red tint to it. That's the only thing that has ever worked for me....coloring twice and making sure its darker than what I really want, knowing it'll fade. That can be a problem though when you have to pay twice...especially with how much some people are charging. Luckily I get mine done free. Other than that...I'd recommend "It's A 10" products! |

| I'm a cosmetologist and as someone who also had red hair for a while, I can tell you that it is a total PITA!
Red is the hardest to keep in and the hardest to get out. Even your best shampoos aren't going to give you a huge difference when it comes to color.
I would ask your stylist to mix you up some of the color she used with some shampoo. Once or twice a week, shampoo your hair with that then let it sit for about 10 minutes, after that, rinse it out. Also ask for a glossing after your color, because that helps lock the color in.
Redken color shampoos are awesome. That's what I'm currently using on my hair and I've had very minimal fading in 2 weeks. |

| Also.. when your hair is colored, are you going darker? Any time you are going more than 2 "levels" darker, your stylist needs to use a filler, otherwise the color will not hold long at all. That's probably why an above poster saw that her color lasted better the second time around.. the color had more to hold on to. |

Noting but Aveda for me. Great products! I second Aveda!!! They have shampoos & Conditioners for different colors.... I accidentally used the Madder Root shampoo for red/auburn once and my blonde was kinda pink. My stylist says the conditioner actually deposits the color more than shampoo so I just use that and color conserve shampoo.
