I recently purchased a Circle Y Bob Marshall barrel saddle for a hard to fit mare I have and, while I am very happy with the way it fits her (no dry spots or ruffled hair YAY!) she is very sensitive to my seat and is a little hesitant to round her back and truly collect ad get in the bridle, especially at a trot. I have found no palpable soreness over her back as of yet, but would like to know what pads everyone has had the best luck with using these saddles. I am currently using a 1" felt pad but I am concerned that when she rounds her back with this pad that he may be getting spine contact, this the hesitation to collect for me. Again, I can't palpate soreness at this time, but I have 4 rides in it so far an want to make sure I am using the right equipment. Thanks!

The thinner the pad the better luck I have had!! 1/2 5 star pad and thin line pads I like. I only use 1/2in pad with my bob Marshall and Tammy Fischer saddles.

I like my Saddleright pads the best of all I have tried with my Bob Marshall saddles.

Csi! Protects the spine from concussion and doesn't roll.

The saddleright pads are really thin, right? Do you think they would give enough spine clearance for a horse that is not super round backed? This horse has moderate withers with a broad shoulder and is moderately filled out begin her withers. I would call her average breadth over her back. Thanks!

Thanks, I will check that out! The negative talk I have heard about these saddles seems to stem from sore backs, but any saddle will sore them if you don't use a properly fitting pad with it.

Ours are all pretty round in the back and not a lot for withers so I am not sure about how they would work on your horse. I know there are a lot of others on here who use Saddleright pads with their Bob Marshalls so maybe someone else has experience with a horse shaped like yours.

I use both Saddleright and CSI with my BM. And love both of them.
