IM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!
my mare is FINALLY sound and I FINALLY have the money to do something like this! I have been busting my butt with my mare for years now on my own and we could both really use the confidence boost and I could use the time away with just my horse.
I went to this clinic when I was 12 and had a blast but obviously I was 12 and didn't really have to be responsible for anything so....do you guys have any pointers? I'll be going just me & my horse 5 hour drive there and back staying in a friends trailer with her for the June 8-14th BR clinic.

I've only been to a 2 1/2 day clinic. I would definitely say to have your horse in the best shape you can by then. And make sure everything fits. No neoprene girths or anything that would rub her raw over ALL day in the saddle. IcyHot and baby powder for you! Lol. I was sore, but not terribly bad. But the inside of my knees were red and irritated afterwards. And you'll have a LOT more time in the saddle than we had.
I would definitely bring electrolytes and have the Bute on hand in case she gets body sore. And have fun!
Bring any bits you use on her. And make sure your reins are adjustable. Ty will most likely adjust them. Bring a notepad. You'll want to take notes if you're able to see Ty working with other people. You'll learn a lot just by watching them.

Oooooo I will be there too!!!!! I'm hauling with some friends! We are sooo excited. I got to do the fall clinic last year and had a blast. Can't wait for the week long. I was told that horses that were rode in neoprene were galled by the middle of the week. Bring all the bits you have been using. And to make sure you and your horse are legged up. I'm bringing fans for our guys and electrolytes. Banamine bute other basic first aid. My friends that went said you learn a ton. Bring a notebook to classes bc they overload you with information. And most of all have fun!!

Thanks!!!!
I just bought a new mohair girth. Do you think that would be ok? I haven't ran her since before I got her sound so Iv been riding her in an oring. I was running her in an oring or jr cowhorse. I'll have all of my tack with me. I'm bringing a box fan and bungee cords in case there's a place to plug them in. I did think of electrolyte but not bute. I'll bring some though. Never thought of a note pad. Maybe a small one I can put in my pocket. I keep banimine and first aid in the trailer. So far she's in good shape but not the best but I'm now riding almost every day so she should be good to go by then. Gonna haul to a few jackpots and exhibition since she hasn't seen barrels in months.

Mohair should be perfect. I just bought an alpaca cinch I have been riding him in neoprene. And really wanted to try the alpaca cinchs. So far he seems to like it. Also I don't know if you wrap or not. I bring standing wraps and pillows. For poultice and green jelly. I wrapped him every night while we were there last time and he didn't seem sore like some of the others. Basically anything I can do to keep him feeling good.

If she hasn't seen barrels in a long time, that's a GOOD thing. You do A LOT of slow work. At least we did. And my finished gelding was done after the first three go throughs. LOL He was fine going faster for Ty, but the trotting and loping with Gary & Lisa he wasn't a fan of.
You have plenty of time to get back in the groove and improve at the clinic under some of the best eyes in the business.

I am bringing both standing wraps and her BOT quick wraps. I also have BOT hock wraps. She is bad about stocking up so I'll have to put something on her legs every night.
I was thinking that we will be doing a lot of slow work and she'll be good and tired of the barrels by the end of the week but my concern is the first run they look at your issues to see what to work on and the last time a ran her when she was still hurting she didn't finish/ launch from her 1st barrel well and now that she is better we shouldn't have that issue and I don't want her to be like barrels WHAT? on our 1st run. Idk. I may just go ahead and wait until Josey's to do any barrel work. I just don't want to go completely empty handed.

I've been to like 7 clinics and I would go to another 7. Its HOT in the summer, but not near as bad as some Houston Humidity. It's a wonderful time. The 7 day clinics are a little much for me but I will probably be there for the 3 day!
Definitely bring a fan for their stall! And just be prepared to ride a lot. It's like heaven on earth there. Try not to bring any money into their tack store because it's like a kid in a candy shop, at least for me!!
They teach you SO much beyond just barrels. They have taught me everything I know
(:
