That is funny! I live in the sugar sand capital of TX and would love some clay to mix in. My horses never think the ground is deep at any arena we go to, because nothing is as deep as my arena at home.

Thats funny, I'm glad someone else posted they would like clay. I guess it depends on where you live. I live in South Central Florida....everything is sand, sugar sand, even dirt is . . . sand. We have to do things constantly to prevent sand colic, and worry all the time about stuff like that. Its hard to imagine someone being happy they got sand!!!!
Happy for you though. Probably like me getting clay or screet.

Well I am needing another truck load. My round pen is in the back of my barn that at one point was just an area that the previous owners had dug out so they could park equipment and store other stuff back there since the buildings itself isn't very tall. It worked out perfectly for us though to ride in since it made the ceiling higher. :
) But since it is technically below ground we need to add a little more sand then I think we would have to otherwise. We should have put something more solid like lime down first to help keep the sand from getting packed down into the clay bottom so much. When we first moved in we put four dump truck loads in and that was good for about 3 years and then we needed to refill so this year I ordered a semi-load
(not sure how much more a semi is than a dump truck?
) but it could still use more. I would say ours is at least a foot deep. I like my roundpen deep though because nothing is worse than slick ground when you are working in such a small area! It also makes the colts work harder to buck......muhahaha!

Everywhere here is black dirt topsoil with clay below. My friends live in the sandhills about 40 miles from here and they have a natural sand arena that I would love to have! Never have to worry about losing your sand...lol. Just dig until it is as deep as you want.
