Location: God's country | I have a question regarding stifles. I have looked at a horse in the past, but he showed changes on xrays in his stifles. Relatively young horse, 5 years old. The vet who performed the prepurchase said he will definitely have to have maintenance done. Would this be a deal breaker for a purchase? Never dealt with stifles, but have heard they are harder to maintain. Just wanting people's opinions who have been down this road. Does he sound like a money pit or can this be maintained pretty well? |

| Did the vet say what was wrong with the stifle? Arthritis? Degenerative joint disease? ligament injury? disease? |

| If it's from injury I'm not 100% sure on how to deal with it, I was told it was slightly different from arthritis. I have one that has osteoarthritis and has them. Injections, supplements(msm, glucosamine, boswellia, etc), proper conditioning(up and down hills-not to much, not a lot of circles, poles) and you can also try shock wave therapy on it-I haven't but was told it has helped others. |

Location: NC | Problems in a horse that young would have me going in the other direction. But I don't have thousands to spend just maintaining a horse. |

Location: God's country | Thanks for the responses! The price tag isn't too bad, but if he's going to be unsound more than sound I don't want that. |
