| There isn't a stronger drug as per say, it boils down to which drug has a greater coverage on bacteria.
Best way to beat the infection, is have a culture completed based on those results the doctor should then prescribe the appropriate antibiotic |

Location: ARKANSAS | both antibiotics treat infection however, bactrim has sulfur in it, so if you are allergic to sulfa drugs you would want to steer clear of it, the other drug does not. |

| I habe a chronic sinus infection/bronchitis, been to multipul docs. Ones i have gone to for year includinh, pulmonary at a medical college they sent me to er, they sent me back to pulmonary them they sent me to ent she did ct scan said mayby i should see allergist but my ct scan was okay, but i have infected snotand eyes al puffed up. Went to a new gp gonna start all over he had seen the list of antibdics i have had which is zpac three times i ininally feel better but infection co,es back abd doc ven admitted there is 60% of resistance to a zpac, had dozycycline, bactrim for 10 days wrote me a script for biaxn. I have had this on and off for three months, and i something like this about 10 years ago they had to give me leviquin for 14 days to kicked it. But i am allergic to leviquin now. Anytime i take antibodic it does get better but not go away it does best with a zpac the first couple days then it starts coming back. It has kept my asthma flared up cant hardly cleaned stalls. I have never been passed around. I have bad sinuses had surgery last year to help been better, also have ra and take emrel that causes sinus infections, they dont drain well and if i use a nettie pot will not drain out the other side they tell me not to use. Last year had one before surgery went to doc on a box gave me leviquin after 4 days still had it went to ent she told me to use afrin for 5 days to help clear, this time no suggestion, when i went in she said to do ct to make sure no scar tissue from surgery, she is dissing me cause it didnot work, dont wont me to blame her.

Location: The South | I don't know what a "doc on a box" is, but I'm a pharmacist so here's a couple things: you're only supposed to use Afrin no more than twice a day for 3-5 days or it can make the 'stuffiness' worse. Also-if you are on "Enbrel" for RA, it can increase your risk of infection, so you might have to take antibiotics frequently. I've also read that patients can get fungal infections so make sure they test for that. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. |

| I had an embedded sinus infection severals years ago. It took a solid 30 days of antibiotic treatment to get that thing gone. A 14 day series will sometimes knock an infection down almost all the way but not gone, then when it comes back it's even worse to get rid of. |
