Location: Kansas | My gelding is eating his grain, but will all of a sudden open his mouth and push the grain around with his tounge...and drop some of it. He started doing it a few days ago. His teeth were floated last march, so I know he is due for them to be done again....but could something else be going on in his mouth? |

Location: Sperry, OK | It has been over a year, so I would start with teeth. He probably has ulcers on the cheeks and is trying to move the food to a different place that doesn't hurt as bad.
Either that or he has sharp point that are preventing him from having the proper chew/grind motion, and is trying to get unchewed feed out of the back of his mouth.

| I would just suspect teeth... Probably a sore on his cheek or something and he's moving the grain around. |

Location: Kansas | He had EPM so I don't think it's EPM again LOL.
I'll schedule an appointment, I figured it probably was his teeth. |

although EPM is low on my suspect list, just because they had it once doesn't mean they are immune from it again. Unfortunate, but they can get it over and over.
I HIGHLY suspect he probably just needs his teeth done again.
IF the horse was coughing, blowing feed out his nose, acting like he was choking, excessively salivating.. THEN i would suspect some neurologic problem. Those are signs that he can't swallow
What your horse sounds like he's doing is just getting feed stuck in his mouth or maybe hitting a spot that hurts. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | We had one do this two weeks after he was floated -- he'd lost a tooth. |
