Location: East Texas | My blue heeler stayed at a kennel for 3 days last weekend. My daughter boarded her 3 dogs also around the same time. She said that her lab started coughing and now my dog has, too. I have researched and it looks like it should get better without medication. She has not lost her appetite, but when she coughs, it is hard and sounds terrible. I have some Finish Line Air Power for my horse. Do you think I can give my dog a little? Looks like the ingredients are all natural (it does say it has ethyl alcohol). |

| Any cough can turn into pneumonia, I would be taking the dogs temp, if the dog has a fever, I would be going to the vet.

Just because something is natural doesn't mean it is not harmful.
Look at all the natural plants that are toxic to horses

Location: Florida.. | id call vet and get cough meds etc.. for dogs.. - Dogs with kennel cough should be isolated from other dogs.
- A humidifier or vaporizer can provide some relief. You can also allow your dog into the bathroom while you shower. The steam will help soothe her irritated breathing passages.
- Avoid exposing her to cigarette smoke or other noxious, irritating fumes.
- A cough suppressant or antimicrobial may be prescribed. Your vet can be able to determine if they would be helpful to your dog.
- If your dog pulls against her collar while being walked, replace it with a harness until the coughing subsides.
- Supportive care is very important—be sure your dog is eating, drinking and in a stress-free environment.

I'd treat it especially if you have any other dogs. It is obviously very contagious and spreads easily. usually easy antibiotic and cough suppressant treatment. super easy and typically depending on the vet you use very reasonable to treat. Once dog recovers vaccinate for it, not 100% but tends to work for most. Sorry your pup got it, I'm sure not what you were wanting to deal with after you picked your pup up. |

Location: East Texas | Thanks everyone. Am calling the vet this morning. I was up all night with her coughing. She is still eating fine, no fever, but the cough is terrible! |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | you need to get your dogs to the vet for meds to get rid of it. They may pass it on to other dogs. I got a dog from the pound and he started showing symptoms. I just kept putting it off thinking it would get better and it just kept getting worse and he was in pain because of the excessive coughing. It was very cheap to treat.

Location: Lala Land | When my dog got that even though she was vaccinated for it, my vet gave antibiotics and some cough syrup. She was good as new in a few days. |

Location: The Oklahoma plains. | I foster a lot of dogs for our city shelter and treat for this often. Sounds much worse than it is but it does worry a person who is not familiar with kennel cough. Get meds, it will clear up quickly. |

| Yes, go to vet and get meds. Mine kept getting it from a neighbor's dog years ago and it was horrible. |
