| This is kind of a vent post and also one I would like more info on from others. When I look at colts and breeders, like everyone, I want to know what the mare has done herself/produced. Well when I look, I get to some of these sites and find mares and the description states "1D, proven producing mare!". They dont give any records of the offspring being 1D and they also do not state out of how many horses. Sure any horse can be a 1D horse at shows that only have 50 riders and lil jackpots. TO me 1D means winning/placing in the 1D at shows with 150+ riders. This shows me that there is some competition and a variety of horses to compete against with maybe some wolves to compete against also. It drives me crazy when I see proven 1D producer and they dont show any records or results of what is running 1D of their offspring, am I the only one, or are there others that this drives them crazy? Like I said, some back yard mama can be a 1D producer at a show with 20 horses. I would just like to see results to show and actually PROVE that the mare is a 1D producer. What are your thoughts? |

| I guess it would depend on the advertisement. I personally am super annoyed when an advertisment is all about dam/sire. yes, that is important but then they have nothing about the actual horse being advertised, it is kinda frustrating for me. I would be more interested in seeing if they can produce some records if asked. |

| 100% agree. I look at the mare side first then the stallion. Personal preference for me. I don't care if it is a Dash Ta Fame or Frenchmans Guy stud and then just a random mare with no producing or competing record. I want both sides of the pedigree. Sounds bad but that is what I prefer in young horses. Not sure if this is the age range you are talking about or not

| Many people don't want to read through a novel when it comes to ads. It's easy enough to pull a produce record and Google horse names. It's also pretty easy to look through a small race and see who those 20 are. For example, back in January we went to a small (30 or so girls) jackpot thar my daughter won. While it was small, it had more than a few NFR girls wanting outs prior to Denver. While the numbers might have been small, the competition was really tough and it wasn't just locals on little ponies. That race still qualified as a true 1D in my book. When you have NFR girls and the top girls in the circuit, tough youth kids in the open then the numbers don't really matter. |

| I agree, I would rather not read a novel. However, I think it would help out a TON if the advertiser would find all the results and post the link to them, so you do not have to go out and find them yourselves and it would also show who was all there. I think it would be greatly appreciated and make the seller look very honest and prove that the mare and stallion are proven.

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | Why not call the seller and ask them? I got a call from a lady a couple of Sundays ago. She was looking at a mare I bred who is now 10-11 years old. I don't know intimately what she's won but I know she's filled her riders first WPRA permit and won the 1D in some races. I owned the whole family so I was able to tell her about the sire and dams dispositions, faults and assets, all their kids and the grand parents too.
IME people don't want to read a book. Even if you write one, they'll ask the same questions they could have answered for themselves if they had read the ad. Call them or do your own research as much as you can. If you're still interested, call them then to get clarification. You can find out from the breed association how many babies the mare has had and get their names. IF the owners are running them under their registered name (PLEASE everyone do this), you can find their results and see who they outran and what the winning time was.
Then call them for more information. Because if the niece of the owner was riding the horse for the first time and he placed in the 3D, I wouldn't be too hard on the horse for packing the kid around the barrels and not running 1D that day.
If it's a baby someone is looking at, all you have is the parents to go on. You may have some insight into their disposition but that's about it. Parents are important in a very young prospect. If it's already being ridden then there is more to talk about. :)

| Guess I don't get the problem. Sorry. If someone is selling a 1D producing broodmare, they might not have access to videos of her colts running. I know my mom has a 1D producing broodmare (well, more than one) and she would have no idea where to find videos of this mares winners. But you could easily enough pull a produce report, Google the names of her produce and find stats, results and some videos fairly easy. Very few breeders also compete on the mares produce. Many sell the babies and let others prove them. If a buyer is serious, doing a little leg work shouldn't be that big of a real JMHO. |

Location: Texas | It doesn't bother me, but I am used to looking for that information and passing on those where I can't back it up and verify it.
I will say, one of the toughest jackpots I can recall where I won 3rd in the 1D, was one back in March or something like that.. February maybe.. It was a Ride Like a Girl with less than 40 in the open.. Taylor Jacob was there, Jackie Jatzlau won it on Imanonstopfame, and I was LUCKY to place in the money running a tenth off her.
Everything, honestly, is relative.. I've learned that some horses really light my fire but someone else may think I'm crazy for liking them. Or they may think they have something fantastic and it just doesn't do it for me. |
