| I've recently bought a finished barrel horse (my first ever) but am so use to push style horses, I cannot figure out how to ride this amazing horse without flopping all over in the saddle. I need some pointers, please. |

Sit still, hands low, let him carry you through the turn, and tuck your chin so you don't get left behind ;-)
People don't realize how hard it is to ride a horse that is powerful, fast, and knows it's job. It's much more difficult than you'd think it is to just stay out of their way, lol |

This, times 11 million. I find it to be a big change to switch from riding push styles all my life to free runners. I'll take a free runner from now on though. |

| I LOVE free runners and much prefer them to push style. That being said be quiet with your body and your hands. Getting your timing down will be the hardest part but once you do it feels amazing. |

This is how I have to ride mine. I literally just have to let him work underneath me and try and keep up. I also run a pretty nice open push style and this is how I ride naturally...it is a bit of a difference for me to have to go from setty to free....Not to mention that my setty horse is 15.3 hh and my free runner is 14 hh even.

This is my setty horse. Pretty much I am always forward on him...and I try to ne right in the middle on my free runner to keep from getting going too fast or getting behind him. To me its a lot easier to ride a free runner...especially if they want to turn. People mistake free runners for run-aways....lol...they should still want to turn when they get there...they just don't need as much encouragement getting there. |

Location: NC | Im with you on this. My older gelding thats now my moms is a kick from the back 40 and he will turn and just keep kicking. My current mare is a free runner and lets just say its a huge adjustment. She comes in flying and will drop front end from you in turn. |
