Joy Cameron (grinandbareit here on BHW) will be coming up north to Humansville, Missouri for an advanced barrel racing and horsemanship clinic. The clinic will be held at Double J Arena February 6 & 7th 2016 and will focus on the mechanics of barrel racing and the body control needed for the quickest pattern possible. There will also be time on Sunday when Joy will work with each horse and rider on what they feel are their weak points. The cost of the clinic will be $300 and half down as a deposit will be due at the end of December. For more info PM me on here or call/text 417-312-3870

What can someone expect out of the clinic? Is it geared more toward horsemanship, pattern work, problem solving? How is it formatted? I've read her website but didn't see many details on the clinic itself.

Joy will be working with each rider and their horse's INDIVIDUAL style, the mechanics of barrel racing and what your horse's body needs to do in order to make it through the pattern as quick as possible, as well as a one on one session with each rider to work on what they feel is their weak points. The first day will be evaluating each rider/horse combination and style. then advanced body movements and control. after that we will move on to drills on the pattern. main emphasis is definitely horsemanship! second day each rider will get time with joy to discuss their weak points and how to target them. ten students, two days.

Hi CG2006... You can expect to get A LOT out of this clinic, ;). Horsemanship is a huge thing with me so we will definitely talk about that and look for the holes in your horse that can be improved with better horsemanship. That being said... one thing that I have learned over the years is that you can not fit a horse or a rider into a box. There are some things that will work on EVERY horse and we will definitely discuss those things. But horses and riders are individuals and have different ways of learning. It is important to me that the groups are small enough that we can pinpoint the things in each horse and rider that need some tweaking. Although we have lots of ladies that see instant improvement, what we are really shooting for are long term FIXES to problems. The things that we learn in the coaching clinics are things that we can use for the rest of our lives, and on many different horses.

Sometimes we just need a little tweaking/coaching to shave that 1/2 second off our time, and believe me, I have climbed on some bad mamma jammas in our clinics that have no business running in the 3d or even the 2d for that matter. It is an awesome feeling when you get that call from someone that just won the entire barrel race on what they thought was their 2d horse. I have been blessed to have some really nice horses and great riders come to me for coaching, and riding and helping those folks just makes ME better. The exercises we do will make a huge difference in your horses, I guarantee it.

We will also discuss the mental part of this game, which can make us or break us. I tell people at the clinics... There is NOTHING that I'm doing that you can not do. It is simply about how bad you want to do it. If you have a trainer or a coach that makes you feel like you can't do what they do, then it's time to find a new trainer or coach. This isn't rocket science. Sure, it comes easier to some than to others, but if I can do it YOU CAN DO IT! Come to the clinic because you want to be better, and when you leave, you'll have a tool box full of information that will help make you and your horse the best that you can be!

Hope to see you there!

Thank you very much for coming on here and giving some more information. I am seriously considering going, now I would just have to buckle down and get to riding so we wouldn't be completely out of shape. :) Thanks again!
