My gelding threw me the other night, which this is not like him to exhibit this type of behavior at all. This horse is as gentle as they come. When he did it, he actually bucked 6-7 more times after I came off, but he came back to me and I was able to catch him. I was in complete shock because as I said before this isn't him at all and I honestly knew what he just did wasn't intended towards me at all and didn't scold him for it as I could tell something was definitely bothering him. I immediately took him to lunge him and see how he was moving and what the deal was. Checked pad and etc, nothing pinching or poking him. I tried to get back on him multiple times and he freaked out and I finally called it quits before he or I were hurt badly... Fast forward to today... Chiro came out and there wasn't one thing out on him skeletal or muscular. However she checked his points for possible ulcers and he was very HOT in those areas and came unglued. Headed to equine vet Monday for confirmation.. So if this is indeed ulcers and we get him healed with meds and proper feed program, what's the likely hood of him trying to do this buck again when I go to get back on? I'm just afraid he will do it when I try again because I wasn't able to get back on when he did it this week. I don't want him relating riding to pain. He has never given me one ounce of trouble since I've had him and has always been a joy to be around and ride. I just don't do bucking. I don't bounce like I use too...

If you get him fixed up, I would lunge him well first if you are nervous. But I really don't think you would have issues if it isn't something he has done on and off in the past.
THE has a great ulcer fix. It works on the hind gut ulcers as well. I can send you pictures of 3 TB's before and after pictures. It is relatively inexpensive compared to so many other treatments out there. $115.95 for 32 scoops.  It also has a money back guarantee. I keep mine on either Muscle Mass or Performance Formula with an ulcer prevent added. It runs $75.95 shipped for 2 and a half months worth.

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement! It just totally caught me off guard because he's never acted that way. I've know this horse since he was 15 months old and he has never acted this way. Heck, previous owner put him on back burner for 6 months and turned him out to pasture, caught him up and put a 13 yr old boy on him and he didn't do one thing wrong. I know my vet will get me on a good treatment plan and feed program to keep them from coming back. I talked with them yesterday to get appointment set up and they told me they use Gastroguard to heal and then get them on a good feed program to keep his tummy happy.

You might also want to check his teeth.

It isn't his teeth. Just had them done in August by an Equine Dentist.

So sorry that this happened. They can sense apprehension. Do you have someone else that can get on him? Husband, neighbor?

I sure would be checking saddle fit, he sounds sore if he was having a bad time of letting you back on, check your saddle also for screws backing out, check to make sure your tree is not broken either. Did you have any tack change?

I was in the same situation as you with my horse. Every now and then he would act funny. Not sore, but just upset about something. And sure enough he would buck. This was really out of character for him since he rides like an old plug most of the time. Everyone thought I was crazy when I told them I thought he had ulcers. I treated him with the ulcer guard, started him on the u gard daily along with aloe juice, and I give him a small flake of alfalfa about an hour before I run. As long as I keep him these he has not had an episode of bucking. I would definitely have him checked. And like the others had suggested, maybe let someone else take the first couple of rides just to be sure!
