Location: Missouri | I've been contemplating on going to the St. Jude Barrel Jam held at the Show Place arena in Memphis, TN at the end of February. The only thing that worries me is the safety of the surrounding area. If you've ran there and stalled over night what was your over all feeling of the place? Did you stay on grounds or spend the night in the hotel? Have you had any incidences where your horse was sabotaged? Any specific areas around that needs extra precaution? etc. All input is greatly appreciated. |

Location: OK | It has been several years but Shelby Farms was a nice place to run plus I have overnighted there when on the road. I felt safe there. |

Location: Mississippi | I run there as much as possible. I have never worried about my horse. (But I'm not a threat to anyone.) I never leave my truck or trailer unlocked while I'm at Memphis. Memphis & Jackson are the only two places I ever worry about theft. I've had two friends that had their trucks broken into at Memphis & several at Jackson. |

Location: Who knows... :) | The arena isn't in what you think of as Memphis.. You're in the suburbs. When you pull out of the arena, If you go 2 mins to the right you're in a very well to do area called Germantown and you are pretty darn safe. If you go to the left 2 mins away youre in Cordova which has gone downhill but is still okay if you just aren't naive- lock your doors and you'll be fine. Vehicles do occasionally get broken into... That's anywhere. Just don't leave items in view or important things in your car. It can happen anywhere. I would not hesitate to run there. They always have great shows & ground is always fantastic. Your horse will be completely fine & you are safe staying in your trailer. |

| Been there several times. Had absolutely no issues. Like others have said, it's not in downtown Memphis. We've stayed in the trailer as well as hotels. Have no hesitation about going there. |

Location: Dearing, GA | I live in the neighborhood across the street from the Showplace and have run there multiple times. Its totally safe, this is one of the neighborhoods in Memphis that remains nice. The area of Germantown Parkway that its located on is still nice and safe. Stalling overnight is a good deal, there are hotels close by, or I'd be willing to put you up at my house! Obviously lock your cars and your trailers when you leave them, but other than that there haven't been any incidents that I'm aware of happen there. Message me with any other questions! |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | The east side of Memphis where the arena is is nice--that's where you want to stay. Downtown isn't as bad as it used to be, it's had kind of a renaissance, but there are plenty other areas to be wary of. |

I do know the St. Jude's race is a nice one for a very good cause. Bring extra money for the silent auctions. |

Location: Millington, TN | It is not in a bad part of town. I have never felt unsafe there. Of course, like any other arena I go to, I always make sure my stuff is locked. I work in downtown Memphis, well that is a different story. All in all it is a very nice arena. There are very nice hotels around the arena too!
Like others, said bring extra money for the auction. It looks like they have some great stuff auctioning off! |
