Are there any tricks to putting this on? I wish they made a small rubber boot that already had the gunk in it so when you're done you can just throw it away.

I use exam gloves to put it on...much easier and the warmth of your hand in the glove seems to get it to stick and stay better. Then I put a layer of flex wrap and cover the bottom of the foot with Gorilla Tape, kind of like Duct tape only stronger.

Does it take you a long time to put it on?

No, I take the Gorilla tape and pre-make a square for the bottom of the foot, put the magic cushion on, wrap with the flex wrap and slap the square on the bottom of the foot, then I can set the foot down, and I make 4 cuts at the corners of the square so I can fold them in around the sides of the hoof.

This is what I do too.

I tried pre cutting the square but found it was flopping into itself and making a mess, the square was easier to handle and then make the cuts after placing it on the sole...

A trick my vet taught me- use a glove smear it on and let them put their hoof down in shavings, shaving stick to the bottom and help pack it in and it will stay in place until you use a hoof pick and get it out!! I pack one geldings front feet every night if hes stalled at a race and this is how I do it, no wrapping/hoof boot/etc and have never had a problem with it coming out early.

Cut out a bunch of card board cut outs of the foot from boxes. I usually do a lot at a time so i have them on hand to grab and then I take a paint stick or tongue depressors, my barn somehow ended up with a ton of them from various donators over the years and I spackle out a good glob onto the cardboard. Then place it on the foot and vet wrap/duct tape or whatever you prefer. They will distribute it evenly when they walk on it.

I also do it this way. A small amout of magic cushion goes a long way. Try using a little less if you are having trouble getting it to stay in the hoof. I grab about a golf ball sized amout and pack each foot and then pat some shavings on it and it stays all night.
