| I am looking into putting up an arena at home .
I have a nice piece of flat ground.
What size do most of you prefer when working your horses at home ?
footing ?
please be resonably priced.....not made of money over here .

| mine is about 125 x 300. I have a wood fence around it. I disked the ground up and have just good top soil. If your looking to just have a nice place to work the barrels, a lot of people just work their ground and don't put any kind of fencing around it. If I did it over again, I would not put up a fence around mine. Not really necessary unless your turning things out in the arena. IMO. |

| Ours is maybe a littl bigger than 100x200, we rope in it very comfortably.
Just disked ground over here too and then we will clean pens out and spread the shavings and manure on it as well. A lot of clay in it so that helps keep it from getting too hard. It's alright, I don't like making a hard run on it unless it's freshly worked as it does pack and get kind of slick pretty quick.
I'm pro fence. If someone comes off we'd be chasing loose horses all over and our arena is right on the road and a mile off a 4 lane state road. Plus the niece goat ties so loose horses are a thing at least once a week in the summer. |

Location: mi | dont go any narrower then 100' and no shorter then 175' that is the minimum to get a decent amount of room between barrels 1 and 2 and a bit of room for poles to be set up. really if I had to do it over again I would go 125 x 200. |

| Ours is 120w X 250L. We also calf rope in ours. We did cedar posts with net wire (small squares). The entire arena with chute, gates and return lane was roughly $3k. My husband built the entire thing by himself. |

| The bigger the better! You can put a small pattern in a big arena, you can't put a big pattern in a small arena. Ours is big enough to put a standard pattern in with 25 feet off of each fence. When we move it we will be expanding it another 24 feet wider and longer. |

| We just built a 100x200. I wanted something smaller for working cowhorse, and for my husband to put on bull fighting competitions if he wanted to. Team sorting, etc. it's big enough to still rope and run barrels etc, but small enough for the other events. If I want to work a big pattern I can use the communities for free. |
