I've borrowed a mare, she's maiden, 6yrold, took to stud and has been there 7 days and is still breeding   I know that's not a good sign.  How likely is she to take??

Not good in my experience. They usually don't take. I think it is late to be a transitional heat, but someone that does more hands on breeding might have a better idea than I do. We pasture/hand breed mostly.

I had a mare do that year before last and she caught. They say sometimes they will still breed for a few days after ovulation? I have only live covered two mares the rest are always AI so don't have much experience there

I had one I just got being bred and she kept in heat for a while. The vet thought it was a transitional heat but we ultra sounded her 2 weeks later anyway and to our surprise there was a viable baby. I think it looks like a filly (lol wishful thinking)

Did she ovulate or are they live covering? or AI? We took my mare in to AI, acting very marish and getting all the stallions hot and bothered when we dropped her off. She didn't actually ovulate until the weekend.

Don't lose hope yet. There are three things that have to happen. The mare has to have a viable egg, the sperm have to get to it to fertilize it and the uterus has to have a clean healthy environment when the fertilized egg gets there. I've had that happen a lot of different ways.

Normal is also different for every mare. One mare may only show heat 3 days another 7. Any number of things can be happening. Be sure to have the mare ultrasounded for twins between 20-30 days. After that it's harder to pinch one.
