How many barrel races do you attend per year and how many horses do you run at each race?

I work every other weekend so I feel like I get the short end of the stick when rodeo season roles around, but for 2016 I have 20 races scheduled running 2 horses each time.

This is about average for me... But I am interested to know how many the rest of you try to hit over the course of a year.

I teach middle/high school so I have summers off and can rodeo as much as I want. I also track how many runs each of my 4 horses makes, how much money they win, what D it is in, indoors vs outdoors, and rodeos vs jackpots. My main rodeo horse made between 70 and 80 runs last year - I want to say the final number was 76 or 78. My second rodeo horse (small pens, mud, bad ground) ran about 65-70 times and my jackpot horses made about 40 runs and less than 20 runs (the 23 year old).
These numbers account for running pretty much year round, though each horse got some multiple week breaks during the year. So far, my main rodeo horse has run 15 times (he got a 6 week vacation from mid-January to the end of March), my second rodeo horse and my younger jackpot horse have each run 25 times and my old man jackpot pony has run 8 times. Eight runs seems like a lot for him at this point in the year, but after the second weekend in June, he probably won't run for a couple months as summers are extra hard on him.

I would say last year I ran my horse 2-3 times a month. Sometimes not at all sometimes it was more. Just really depended on if I felt like going and/or had the money. I prefer to do the weekend races then just local day races.

Since I'm in Florida and don't venture often outside of the state, I consider my year to start in August and end in June.  I always take all of July off.
So I'm coming to the end of my "year/season" and have only been running/seasoning one young horse all year.  I count that we have ran 32 times this season so far.  I should be making 5 more runs before I give her a vacation.

Between work, having a son in sports, and other family obligations, this has been a higher than normal year for me.  But I definitely would go more often if I could!

2 times since the first of March.  We are moving and trying to get our house ready to sell.  I used to go at least 3 times a month depending upon the weather, sometimes more.  I'm saving my gelding because there will never be another one like him.

Up until this year I only jackpotted. My good horse came on real tough beginning of last year so I started being real picky about where she ran. I want to say she made 40 or so runs last year. My futurity horse probably made 60 runs... I hauled her to alot more small stuff.

This year I pulled my permit and have started rodeoing. But I'm still super picky about where my mare runs. I only enter her at big money races or rodeos. My derby horse is tough too so I'm not wasting time with little races on her either... which is kinda giving her the short end of things this year because she's not getting the call all that often right now.

So far my rodeo horse has made about 15 runs and my derby horse 10 or so. I'm predicting by the end of our season (mid october) my rodeo horse will have 60 or so runs and my derby horse around 40. I also haul my futurity horse for next year do smaller jackpots to exhibition. He only has 3-4 exhibitions so far :)

I was always taught that a horse is like any professional athlete -- they only have so many runs. I choose to use those runs where I feel they count the most :)

This is great information for me to take in.

It is comforting to know that I am going an "average" amount. I have tried to cut out the middle man events this year... All of my scheduled runs are either big money adventures or home town play days. In the past I have entered everything willy nilly and it just felt scattered with no direction.
