Extreme Veteran Posts: 317 Location: MS	We're building a new barn. I'm trying to decide which mats to use in the stalls. Has anyone ever used stall savers ?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 415	I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Stall Saver! We've had our barn 20 years and I just put one in my foaling stall this year....why didn't I do it earlier and in all my stalls?! Easy to clean, no moving mats, and they last!

Expert Posts: 2604 Location: Texas	I have built four barns over the past 20 years. I have put Humane Loktuff Stall Mats in every one of them. Love them. But then my stalls are glorified dining rooms. I have 50' sand runs off the back of each stall with 18' of it covered so they pee and lay down out in the runs. It trains them to pee out in the run because they don't like splash. :) If/When I have to keep one stalled in 12x12 I can close the back stall gate and still put shavings down.

Expert Posts: 1286 Location: Mississippi	I have had the stall saver mats for about 6 months and have been very pleased with them. My horses are turned out 24/7 and only stalled for about an hour each day for feeding or if the weather is bad I will keep them up. We have dirt floors underneath and dug some drainage holes in each stall, put white rock in the holes then we added crusher run on top of that with the mats on top. So far, seems to work good and cleaning is quick and easy (I use the pelleted bedding). If mine were up all the time, I could probably give a better review but the stall savers work good for my setup and routine

Extreme Veteran Posts: 317 Location: MS	My stalls are dirt. Mine are out most of the time. My biggest concern is not getting mold under whatever mats I use. I used to use rubber mats and always got mold under them. I'm in MS so the rubber sweats. I'm thinking that I won't have that problem with the stall savers. What did you guys put under yours?

Expert Posts: 2604 Location: Texas	We put the recommended decomposed granite 4-5" deep under each mat. We live in Central TX which gets VERY humid in the summers. I have never had a mold issue.

	when you dig out your stalls to put any type of sand or grit in them ... lay down some ag lime to soften up the dirt for better drainage and wicking of moisture .. then put in your leveling grit or sand then the mats ... you can do this even if you don't do mats ... When it comes to geldings they pee in the center of the stall .. you can dig out and replace the stalls center and lime it to help drainage ... vs the entire stall ... HAVE FUN ..

Expert Posts: 1718 Location: Southeast Louisiana	Probably a silly question, but how does liquid drain if it's a sheet of rubber? I was thinking that using the mats with holes for drainage would be better (with the rock underneath).
