| I use a back on track saddle pad. It goes under your regular pad. It DOES CREATE HEAT. So even if your not riding I wonder if you could just put one on their back or even sew it into a horse blanket/Sheet?? |

Is it a liner or actual pad? |

It's a thin under pad. It's actually designed for sore backs. |

BOT also makes this one that can be used alone or attached to a sheet. I gal I use to board with would put it on with a surcingle and leave it while she did chores

| I have a different approach completely. Topical doesn't do anything, not really, in my opinion.
Body work is super important. Learning how to make your horse pick up his back and stretch, where the release points are at hip and flank are and how to release them. The muscles and ligaments get tight and sore on their legs, you need to learn how to work those points out and stretches for each.
Hoof balance and joint health is the most important thing for backs. You can release the tension all day long, but until you take care of the causes, the tension itself won't be manageable. Regular performance aches are one thing, but extreme cases sometimes need other things diagnosed and treated first.
Super sore backs are often a symptom of sore front feet.
Just something to consider. |

The is the best bit of advice I've seen here in awhile. Spot on! I will add, I put a warm-hot old towel soaking wet on my horses and throw the BOT pad over the top of it. I let them soak then I get down and dirty with my body work. I sometimes have to put them in the stocks so we're both safe. Afterwards, a totally different animal! |
