My husband and I live on his family's farm. Our two sons are the 5th generation. Long story short my husbands father has 5 bothers and sisters. They are all at the age that they have sons and daughters who now have younger kids as well! We are looking at around 75 people if everyone comes and it will be ALL ages! People are coming in from about 5 different states, some are "City folk" and some are not. Some have not been to the home farm since they were little kids themselves.

OK now on to what I need help with. We are trying to plan an itinerary. Should it do an entire weekend of events or just focus on one day. We are going to have some tractor rids, horses tacked up, we have some colts and baby calves for everyone to mess with and see. Who all has planned an event like this. I am freaking out because of course I am a last minute planner and it is at the end of July!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated or activities that you guys have done before. This is our fist family reunion ever.

Food? Finger food style, buffet style or dine in style etc
Serving style? tables,  just chairs  etc
Entertainment? while others are enjoying the farm life what about those who choose not to. tv, music, chairs etc
and don't forget the weather forcast!!

Family reunions are more of a social event so everyone is there to chit chat and hang out. Don't stress out on things to do because having a comfortable place to chat is going to be the most important thing.

we used to have a family reunion on a family member's farm. They made it a one day deal, and the ones who lived close enough brought a side dish or desert. They had a few games to play, but everyone pretty much sat at the picnic tables or groups of chairs and visited. They got older and it got to be too much so this last time we all met at the Big Texan in Amarillo. They have a meeting room with some things the kids can crawl around on and play. It was great! I got to see family I had never met. I hope yours is as fun as ours was. I loved hearing them tell stories on each other. Most of the people will probably want to check out the home place and then do a lot of visiting.

When my family gets together (we also have a large family, all ages); for the most part, we make sure there are set dinner plans. Sometimes we will break off into groups and decide what to do that way. But as far as actual plans, only dinner & maybe breakfast at a specific time so everyone does all come together.

I wouldn't stress too much off having anything set in stone!

Could maybe have trail rides at blah blah time or "pet fun" (lol idk) at a certain time. etc so people can join in for that if they want. A lot of people I know LOVE feeding time, so maybe include that as a thing to do.

My husband's family has a reunion every year. It is held at a facility that does wedding receptions etc. Everyone brings a food dish and I think they had bar b que for the meat. Each family gives a rundown of births, marriages, graduations, and deaths that have taken place during the year. Family pictures are made especially of the really old family members. If you have a printer there someone can print the pictures and distribute them to anyone who wants copies. We took ours to Walmart to the 1hour developing. (before digital)It was a one day event.

Make sure you have some outdoor shade....or protection from an unexpected rain. You could either rent a tent/canopy or buy one or two. Hubby used to carry a 10x20 that we called his "horse house" when he was still picking up. You can but them for maybe $90 to 150 each and they can come in handy to have around. That way everyone doesn't have to cram in to your house.

They are they type that you see at many flea markets, easy to set up, easy to tear down.

Have a GREAT time!

We had a similar family reunion 2 years ago. We did it for what would have been my grandpa's 100th birthday if he was still with us. We just set up tons of tables in the garage so people could come and see the farm, and we did a potluck-style on the food. Then we picked a specific time (I think it was 3 PM or something) and all went together to see the original farmstead (before they moved to the current location) and did a "tour" there, and came back again for cake and ice cream.

We just did it in one day, and people stuck around as long as they wanted.

For your sake, it might be easier to just plan one day!

Pinterest has a ton of ideas for family reunions -- both games, memory making things and how to manage outdoor settings.
