It's always been deep as long as I have ever known.

Thanks. Saw a post that looked like they were trying to imply it had rocks in it...

Not real great, kind of shifty when I've seen it. A long 17 will usually place in the first go. They take back 96 and a long 18
(18.8 or even slower some years!
) will make it. With 200+ entries and the top in the world entering you would think it would be faster but the ground won't allow.

My neighbor's daughter, Jammie Tinker, is there and ran yesterday. She made it back, yea!
She said it was kind of hard and then like it had kitty litter sprinkled on top! There were several falls and her horse went to sit and turn at the first barrel but slid past it a ways. I understand it seemed to get better as they went along, maybe as it was being worked up more it got better. Doesn't sound like it was deep at all this year.

Did 4H and FFA in that arena from a kid to 18 and never remember any rocks. Roped and did the county barrel race years after that and never remember rocks. Just always deep. I never minded running there, all my horses seemed to like it, but it was about as deep as anywhere I have ever been.

It is not an easy pen to run in. If you are in the first 3 - 5 to run is your best chance. The ground is very shifty and horses fall every year. There are itsy bitsy pea gravel like stuff in the sand. Some horses like it but most......yikes.
