I've read the previous info on nbha youth world and have a few questions. We went years ago when it was in Jackson but have not been to Perrry.
1 I see everyone recommends stall mats, but didn't see where I could order them on the entry. Is there someone separate at the facility you order them from? Will they take them to your stalls and put them in for you? Mats are heavy! If not I'm planning on putting the pelleted bedding then shavings.
2 If they will let you buy a tack stall should you? I don't have a living quarter trailer so I don't know how far the parking is away from the barns for regular horse trailers?
3 Would you recommend a golf cart? I didn't think we did at Jackson but it was great to have one at the TJHSRA state finals in Gonzales.
Any other advice is great also! TIA

I haven't been to youth but i have been to open so here's my two cents -
We brought our own stall mats(were very cheap lol) but yes they will put them in the stalls for you, they usually supply 3 bags of shavings which they will also open and dump in your stall prior to arrival. There should a link on the website to order the mats. We didn't get a tack stall last year but will FOR SURE this year. Especially when split between two or three people its worth it. There is TONS...I repeat TONS of parking. We were courteous and didn't park our trailer at the hook ups but also got a great and close spot to our stalls. Depends on when you plan to arrive but even as the first run got closer there was tons of parking. I would def recommend a box fan or two for your stalls. It gets very hot and very stinky in the barns.
As for the golf cart it just depends, we didn't get one last year as we drove the truck around the grounds but as we will be staying on site this fall we will get a golf cart then to not have to drive the truck.

I've been to Perry to watch the past couple of years...

I'm not sure about the mats, but my mom (who hauls and cares for the little girl's horses) just bedded deep and made sure the horses got out several times each day. There is a huge field you can take a chair and a book and just let them graze for a bit, and grassy runs you can put them in to move around for a while.

Yes, get a tack stall. If you have friends going, y'all can just share one to split the cost...also if you send entries in in one envelope you can all be stalled together.

Golf cart is convenient, but not 100% necessary, IMO. The people we were with brought their own, I'm not sure how pricey it is to rent one.

Perry is a great facility, much bigger than Jackson, and a little further from "town."

I've been 4 times. In the past I have brought my own mats (I never heard of ordering them on the website-I'll definitely look into it though-that would make my life so much easier) bringing your own is a PAIN but it is worth it. I put the mats down, then pelleted bedding, then shavings over that.
I've never bought a tack stall, I just use the truck to bring my tack from the trailer to the barn where my horses are stalled and tack them up there, however I've only ever taken 2 horses, if I brought more or if others wanted to split a tack stall it would be worth it.
A golf cart is nice to have but not totally necessary in my opinion.
You'll want to bring your own waterhose because there is no guarentee that there will be one in the wash rooms or at the end of the stall rows.
I also cannot stress enough the importance of box fans (at least 2, turned on high the WHOLE time), put the horses on electrolytes, and make sure that they have 1-2 full buckets of water in front of them at all times! I live around here so I know the weather but a lot of people come from other areas and aren't prepared for the kind of heat that Georgia has to offer in July. It was so hot one year that there were dozens who had to scratch because of their horse(s) getting dehydrated.
Aside from that, if they have the Sweet Tea stands up make sure you buy a cup and keep a few bucks on you at all times for refills (:

I live in GA and have been to Perry many times. Parking is HUGE and a tack stall is nice but not necessary. Def take box fans for the stalls!

I do not use mats in Perry anymore. They are a pain to put down and take up. I just put down about 6 bags of pellet shavings wet them lightly then put my fluffy shaving on top of that. Works just as well as mats. There is a feed store across the road that you can buy shavings at as well. I think they are a touch cheaper.

Golf cart is def nice because the facility is HUGE but its not necessary.

Perry is in my backyard so we compete there several times in the year. Don't worry about the mats. You are better off buying pelleted shavings and packing them down and then putting bag shavings on tops. Works out great for us. Also I would get vaccines updated and start on a immunity booster before arriving. Seems like every year someone brings a sick horse and then they have several who go home sick. Also there are runs and grass pens near the entrance you can turn out in. I take mine late at night or early morning and turn them out for a few hours. Bring fans, electrolytes and I like to do bigel oil baths during the day to help them keep cool and feeling good. They also have a vet there that will Jug them. If you have one who may get dehydrated and depleted from the heat this helps a lot. I know people have mixed feelings on this but its always been a go to for me when I feel they need some fluids and vitamins.

everytime ive gone to perry for a show, there have been one or two different stall mat rental companies/people. They usually start posting on facebook with their contact info and pricing once the event gets closer & they will usually have them in your stall prior to your arrival so you never have to mes with them... i bring my own mats personally and use soft rides.... i would recommend SOME sort of cushion from the concrete for your pony... especially since YW is a full week long.

I'm a HUGE fan of a tack stall...so handy and eliminates having to drive to the barns with your tack (it turns into a complete CLUSTER #&$% around the barns with trucks pulling in and out once the week kicks off and everyone is trying to get ready to run) Just go ahead and pay for the extra stall when you send your entry in...they dont care what goes in it or what its used for as long as its paid for

I assume you wont be staying in your trailer so they SHOULD have you park it at the trailer drop behind Horse Barn 2 (the barn on your left when you pull through the main entrance) which is pretty convenient IF you're also stalled there...but there's always that chance you end up stalled across the fairgrounds from your trailer..

We've rented a golf cart a couple times when we've been there and we've also went without one.... i think if you spring for a tack stall you may not necessarily "need" to spring for a golf cart too...it would still come in handy for getting around the grounds but i only rented one when i had to cart my tack back and forth from trailer to stall.

Hope this helps! Good luck! :)
