Opinions.... is it worth going? It is almost a whole week off work plus the expense. I've never been and I am planning to go this year as my birthday present to myself but in order to go I will have to give up other big shows that I love going to every year.(I dislike to have champagne taste on a beer budget ugh).

Any opinions, experiences, suggestions will be greatly appreciate it :)

Here's my take: I grew up going to the BBR most years. I had a blast as a kid and ever since I moved out on my own I have been busting my butt to get to go back. I finally qualified AND have a sound horse to run this year. Its expensive as all get out, and the chances of winning money are.... well, depending on what D you run in?

But to be honest- you are paying for the experience. Yes, big possibility of winning a decent amount of money, but if you go with the cost on your brain you won't enjoy the BBR for what it is.

As a birthday gift- GO. Just do it. I am doing it for me because I have BUSTED my butt to get here and I am killing myself in nursing school right now. That is my reward :)

The BBR pays very well IF you place.  The odds are not in your favor unless you have a horse that consistently kicks butt in the 1D with the tuffest horses in the world.  It is however a great experience and a ton of fun.  All depends on what you are looking for.

YES, go!  It's quite an experience!  I finally got to go.  I had to borrow a horse & have a bad back but I REALLY wanted to go.  We had tornado like activity and lost power, no finals round......but it was a once in a lifetime experience for me and I enjoyed it!

I've gone to watch.  The arenas look dark and uninviting to me with packed ground.  Never ran there though.

The arenas are not dark. The ground gets questionable at times in the main one. but not always. Isn't any different than anywhere else! But it is not dark.

We went 2 years ago when the weather really got crazy (trailers blown over, short go cancelled because of a long power outage). But we still had fun, and it sure is a great experience.
My friends and I are talking about going again this year, but have not decided yet.
Yes you have to be very lucky to place, but when you place the checks are NICE!
No it's not something we will do every year, but I do think it's one of those races you have to do at least once.
JMO.
We stayed in a hotel (when you share a room with a couple of girls it really isn't that expensive) and got a tack stall. Trailer parking is huge and you can end up walking miles on end if you have to tack up at the trailer. Just make sure you bring a chain and lock so you can lock it up.
We also got mats since the stalls are concrete.
ETA:
the arena's are nice and big, we didn't have any issues with the ground. The only thing I did not like was that they run into a closed gate. We don't do that around here, so it was new to me. I wasn't sure if my boy would stop, so I asked the gate person to just rattle the gate when we got running home.

It is a blast. I have placed a few times and it pays well. VERY well ran and the producers are kind people who are willing to help. We always have such a fun time. The arenas are not dark, sometimes the ground, Like anywhere else, can be tricky but they try to always make it 100% great. Go and enjoy yourself and if you make some money thats even better

Went last year. Placing is definitely a crapshoot but I ended up making most of my money in the sidepots, on two horses. Plan to be back. I tend to call it the 'mini NFR' until I make the real one. I also ended up in the year end standing both last year and this year without hauling all over the place.
