Location: Iowa | My 4-year old mare started wringing her tail a little during exhibitions while on the right lead, so because I am a little over protected of my horses, I had a vet check it out already. He stated that her deep digital flexor tendon and her distal sesamoidean ligament were showing a little heat and inflammation. She is not lame and barely palpated sore for him. He said just some time off. Has anyone else ever dealt with something like this? What causes it? Any other methods to help the healing process? How long did it take to heal? She currently is out on pasture and getting Animal Element Detox for joints. Thanks in advance! |

Location: Claremore, OK | I would have her ultrasounded . you need to know if there’s a lesion. Usually, if they palpate sore , there’s something more serious going on . You can’t treat it without knowing exactly what it is. I would also want to X-ray feet to make sure she had positive palmar angle. your vet’s diagnosis is way too vague for me. |

| I am dealing with this again on the back legs. First it was the front leg. You need to have a ultrasound done to find out where and if it has a tear or just sore. Then we did 3 sessions of shockwave therapy and months of rest. Also egg bar shoes to help support with a tear. |

| Me too! Mine had a strain in Nov, stall rest, hand walk, progressive controlled exercise. Made a cruise thru run early May, strained the same leg same dft but in a different spot. Back to stall rest, added prp, hand walking but will try again next spring. If she does it again I'll probably be done with her. Sad thing is she's only 7 and I REALLY like her, but very worried this is going to be a problem. |

Location: my piece of paradise | Going through something similar. Lateral branch suspensory strain. We have rested and are doing cold laser treatment everyday and magna wave several times a week. Im wrapping with runners relief 12 on 12 off. He is getting small turnout at night. My vet also wanted me to start growth horomon injection once a week to help strengthen the tendons. We also put a Denoix suspensory branch shoe on him for added support. I rested him longer than originaly advised just because i felt he wasnt ready. Im glad i did. We are fixing to start legging back up soon! I wish you well! I would also get xrays and consult with your farrier. Mine we are pretty sure was caused by poor shoeing. Not taking enough toe off and no heel support before i got him. I cant stress enough how vital a good farrier is. No foot no horse! Im thankful for my farrier and that he will work in conjunction with my vet. He may be a little pricier than other farriers in my area but i will pay the extra for quality. |

Location: Iowa | Thank you for the responses! Her ultrasound did not show any lesions, so I am going back next week for an x ray. He said some time off, but I will try to seat her leg and see if that helps! I just purchased her so I will have a discussion with my farrier to see if we need to change how she is set up! |
