i am getting a 2.5 year old mare today (from a very trusted long term friend). He owns the stud and mare she came from. They are both registered but he just never took the time to register the filly. What is the process for registering the filly? I have never had to register one but i figure if she is able to i might as well go ahead and do it. I do know it will cost me more since she is older, but that is all i know. Do i have to do anything to actually prove parentage or just write her parents on the form? do all mares need to be hypp tested or just certain bloodlines? (I have always been a gelding lover so this is my first mare too) please help!! Thanks! Oh and pictures of my little beauty for fun. She's the one with the kid on her.

The stallion owner will have to submit a late stallion report to report that your mare was bred. You should then get a breeders certificate, the stallion and mare will have to be DNA tested if they are not already.

AQHA is a nightmare to deal with right now, your best bet would be to get the email and phone number of one specific person in registration to communicate with.  I have both TB and QH running on the track and I can tell you that there is just no excuse for AQHA to be so poorly run compared to Jockey Club.  Stay on top of the registration process or it will never get done, the only thing they do quickly is deposit your check.

Start the process soon as the price goes up as the filly ages.

Hopefully the stallion owner submitted the dam's name in the breeding report for the year your mare was bred. We just went through this with a 9yo mare- luckily the breeder still had the original paperwork to register the mare, but it was definitely a hassle. The AQHA will make you do the 5 panel genetic test and DNA to ensure parentage before sending you the papers. It might help if the stallion owner writes a letter when they submit their paperwork, that's what the breeder did for us and explained the situation. And absolutely try to get her registered ASAP- the price goes up significantly as they age. I think we had to pay $550 plus the $150 ish for the 5 panel/DNA.

Well,she IS A BEAUTY:)

Thank you! I'm absolutely in love with her already. She will be 3 in April and I took her to a team roping with my husband Saturday (the same day we picked her up and first time I have ever even seen her). I rode her around and then sat on her in the arena with all of the team ropers. The sounds, steers, ropes... NONE of it bothered her one bit and she stood patiently the whole time until i decided to get off of her. I am so excited to see where we will go in the future with the great, solid start that she has had!!

I bought a 3 almost 4 year old filly with the same issue. They had the registration paperwork filled out but never sent in or signed. So I filled out what I could and sent it in. They will require you to have the filly DNA tested. Hopefully the sire and dam already are or else they will need to be also. It cost me a little more than $600 just for the papers and I did the DNA +HYPP test so that was another $150ish. IDK if they will require you to get conformation pictures or not.

Yes mam, she's beautiful---love that line down her back!   My Dan had that same beautiful thing except in red!!   Good luck with her in the future.

Stallion must have the 5 panel test. $85 for members $125 for nonmembers.
Mare and stallion must both be DNA tested. That is $40 per horse.
Registration for a 2 year old is $330. Registration for a 3 year old is $550. Remember a horse's age changes Jan 1 not on their birthday.
Your horse must be DNA tested also. If the stallion and mare are already tested you will save quite a bit but if not you are looking at about $800 to register. One other thing if a stallion report was not submitted for the stallion, that is about another $50
