| I have a horse who is navicular and have had her on Stride OrthoMax and Stride Rewind supplements but haven't noticed any huge benefits from them. A friend suggested Equinety since she's seen it work wonders for her horse with ring bone. I also saw there's a supplement out there called Naviculasaver. Does anyone have experience with these supplements or think one works better over the other? I also noticed Naviculasaver is super expensive. Equinety would be a little more doable for my budget. Thanks for the help! |

It would be nice to know what else you are doing for the horse. Shoes? Special? Coffin joint injections? Osphos? Etc. Etc. I have two horses with "navicular". One has bony changes on the xrays and the other does not. Ironically, the one with bony changes feels better than the one that has clean xrays. I have both horses on Pentosan every 2 weeks (after the loading dose) and it has done absolute wonders for both of them (along with other appropriate therapies such as those mentioned above). The pensotan seems to help them move a lot better with less stiffness. |

Thanks for the help! I haven't heard of any supplements really helping, something with anti-inflammatory properties might have minimal effect. I have had good results on the Buteless and the MVP version for other pain issues. I've had the best luck with proper shoeing and injecting the feet, 1-2x a year. And I redo the xrays every 2 years to look for changes, as he's stayed sound. And xray in between if his soundness changes, which it only has once. He ran sound as navicular like this for 6 years and is still sound in retirement, he still gets worked 4-5 days a week since he's only 22 & I love riding him

| I'll clarify a little about my horse's situation, I had her officially diagnosed and X-rays done a few months ago where it was determined she had bone degeneration of her navicular bone mostly in her left front. She has been doing really good after my farrier put Wedged PLR shoes on her fronts. But she gets sore when her toes start growing out again. The shoes still help though. I am just looking for a supplement that's gonna bring down any inflammation and/or help with stabilizing the joint just a little. I realize there's no cure, just want her comfortable. |

Location: LouLouVille, OK | My favorite joint supplement that seems to have helped inflamtion is Myristol Pro... but I will also say, Navicular is hard... nothing cures it.. but trying to keep them comfortable is soooo nice... I will say look at your starch and sugar content in your feed... I have one with navicular, and he's done alot better since I got a low NSC feed!!! |

| I tried Equinety and got nothing out of it. Supplements have never been much help for me. I had to go the rx med route. Edited to add. I did try barefoot and with the correct trim my horse went pasture sound without any meds. I don't advocate barefoot as a treatment but I had tried everything else to get her comfortable and I was worried about the meds long term affects.

Amen to this!!! My 17 year old mare who fractured her patella in 2011 and my 20 year old gelding who I run barrels and used to cut on has some navicular changes and this is what I use rather than Previcoxx due to the mare having kidney issues from long term use of the Previcoxx. For general matinence a half dose works fine, if I'm going to make a run then I give them a full dose the day before and the day off. Another product I have recently used to is Livestock Impact, I really like it as a total body reset! |
