Hubs and I are looking for the next truck. He's never had to buy one for a trailer and I haven't had to buy one in 20 years. I grew up in a dodge family and hubs and I have an 06 2500 that I love but like I said...20 years old.

It seems to be a toss up on who makes the worst truck that's going to break down first and take the longest to repair and be the most expensive. I'm not impressed. My conspiracy theory mind thinks it's on purpose to drive us out of our trucks.

The ABS system in the Ram  should be a recall issue. It's COMMON. The government is no longer overseeing recalls, so the consumer is getting ripped. The ABS will cost you $6k and the parts are a six month wait. Bought the Dodge to replace the F350 because it needed a  pump in the diesel tank. The part hasn't been available since 2020. None in the US, and no expected delivery. GMC got me too. The timing chain in Terrains necessitates engine replacement. Another issue that should be a recall. It started with rhe 2014 and continued through 2018. I'm about 15k out of pocket from vehicle issues that shouldn't be issues. I think we are being funneled into EVs.

Someone told me once, find the one your butt fits in best. They all have pro's and con's.

We're dodge people, I have an 18' 2500 short bed (I hate the short bed), my dad has an 18' 3500 dually. I prefer his over mine to pull with. Mine does good, but I think his engine break with the aisin transmission is better. I liked the duramax when I was truck shopping, but the dodge was in my price range.

Nothin's perfect.

We have a 2022 Ford F350. Has worked great so far. Pulls my 5-horse LQ great. I do also have an older 3-horse slant, which I had to do an axle lift on it. The newer truck bedrails sit so much HIGHER than the trucks used to - I couldn't get my smaller trailer level so I had to lift the axles on it, which is now fine.

Keep your 5.9L and add air bags.  That's what we did.

My hubby has a 2500 2018 Ram Tradesman that he's had good luck out of.  I can tell you it uses WAY more DEF if you pull in Tow/Haul.  He doesn't use T/H unless he's in hills or pulling a really heavy load (work truck).

You will also find that getting a manual transmission is pretty much out of the question nowdays.  I HATE backing a trailer with an automatic.

I've got a 2017 Ram 1500 Hemi.  I'll pull the two-horse with it on occasion and it does well.  It's our "go to town" vehicle.  It drives like a car.
