MOTIVATED - 2015-08-06 12:49 PM So I can take my novice horse and enter him at 80% of the permit 1k added rodeos and get points without running my good horses legs off on crap ground with the exception of the added money rodeos where I dont mind risking my horses legs. So then I can "qualify" for the circuit finals pretty much on rodeo count............whoa. Havent we gotten competitve (sarcasm). As if making the circuit finals wasnt already a hauling contest in its own....the only thing good about it is how much better the permit rodeos will pay because now they are going to be twice as many entries.
I really don't see this has playing a huge factor in getting more or less entries at rodeos. The people that have the funds to haul a novice horse to WPRA rodeos to begin with JUST to go to as many rodeos as possible probably are already doing just that today. It isn't going to change how much it costs to haul and run at all these rodeos. I know for me personally, I enter rodeos when it works for my work schedule and if I can afford to do it, which limits my options. Ofcourse circuit finals is one of my goals. It will be interesting to see just how much things will change for the average contestant at rodeos. One of the members in our Great Lakes region actually tallied up what the point system would look like today for the current Top 15 in the circuit. #4 jumped to #1, a few lower down jumped up quite a few, some with the fewer rodeos
(but always placed high
) went down a couple spots, and around the #12-#15 range, some that would make it this year, wouldn't have, and vice versa. As far as the people who go to every rodeo but rarely place, they still didn't make top 15.
