Location: Oregon | So I have been thinking lately my gelding may have ulcers...
I know a lot of ulcer treatments are spendy..
He tends to grind his teeth a lot when asked for a canter..
sometimes even a trot..
He isn't cinchy but if I get it tight to where I like it to be he always looks back
At it like why?! Lol
So has any one had good experiences using good herbs for them?
I am also looking into getting his teeth done soon..
ETA: There is a really good herb lady near me who can custom mix them
for me who I have talked to a few times already...

Location: So. Cali. | I swore one of my mares had ulcers. Total witch, didnt like to be cinched, crabby when asked to pick up a canter, showed colicy signs after competitions. Had her scoped, fun experience trying to make that happen, haha. NO ULCERS! I was shocked.
Moral of the story, you can never be too sure
I do however give all my horses Aloe Vera Juice everyday and had the above mentioned mare on liquid U-Gard. Pretty inexpensive.

| I have used papaya purΓ©ed with good results, but for price the ulcercureotc OTC that Douglas sells is 150 for the month, and I seem right now he is having a sale.
I would go this way as it has been researched, it is omeprazole |

Location: NC | I used Ulcercure OTC to treat, then added ulcer to THE MM for maintenance. Did wonders for my horse. I have a friend who put like 8 horses at her farm on Ulcercure and saw improvements in either attitude, weight or both. |

Location: lexington KY | I was 90% positive my horse had ulcers and so was my vet, until we scoped him last week and found not one. I was happy that wasnt the issue, even though he has a lot of the signs. The internal medicine doctor at Hagyards was shocked as well. I have my horse on Kentucky Performance Products Neighlox Advanced as a preventitive and I am very happy with it and it seems to be doing the job. |

Location: Utah | The ulcer test for fore and hind ulcers is simply a manure test. Relatively inexpensive and Imeprozale is cheaper than it used to be. I know because I did both on my horse. Now I give him Imeprozale the day before I haul and when at a race and he is doing great. |

| Hind gut ulcers can't be seen in a regular scope and are more common than a lot of people think. Symptoms are similar to foregut ulcers yet treatment is different. Ompeprazole doesn't cure hind gut ulcers.

My horse had hind gut ulcers and I got them healed with THE GastroPlus and then dosed him before I put him in the trailer and everday at a race. |

 I Am Always Right
Posts: 4264
Location: stray dump capital of the world | I have one with confirmed ulcers. After the diagnosis, I did the gastroguard dosage then looked at all products and decided on 2 products. I already had some THE gastroplus in the house that I switched her to after the gastroguard dosages recommended by the vet were finished. I used that until her THE Performance Formula with the ulcer prevention and calming agent came in. It has worked great on her and you can get specific blends that work best for your horse. I love the stuff. I have another that has not been confirmed with ulcers; however, she has had colic surgery, is an extremely nervous horse, would grind her teeth when a horse walked by her stall, and her coat became dull and yucky. I put her on FORCO. She is a big, thick, monster of a mare and the FORCO only made her more beautiful. He coat is back to the way it was, she no longer grinds her teeth and is not near as nervous as before. She seems so content. I honestly cannot say which product is my favorite as both have worked on what I needed them to. I found both equally affordable, especially after the dosages of gastroguard and my vet bill to diagnose the ulcers. Hope this helps! |

Location: southeast Texas | Another poster suggested diet change. I have a mare that does/did all that your horse is doing. Originally I put her on THE Gastro Plus. That helped some, but not with the body soreness. Started her on a PSSM diet. What a change. No more body sore when I brush her. No more grinding her teeth when being saddled. Try a low starch feed. I have been having good luck with Nutrena Special Care. |
