Since most people are commenting on the mileage for the dodges, I don't think this applies to your situation as the diesels in dodge and Chevy are different.

The cummins engine is tried tested and maintains it value.

I don't think the Chevy diesel has been put into that same category. It also depends a lot on the options your truck has, is it 4 wheel drive, all the bells and whistles.

As someone said, do your homework, get the blue book price, print off similar adds, and it may be better for you to sell privately.

You can also go to autotrader.com & check prices of compariable vehicles.  I would try selling it outright first before trading it in.  You might also check with Car Max & see what they would give you.

Most diesels maintain their value (Dodge, Ford, and Chevy).

We have a 1997 F250 7.3 that is in mint condition that has 212k miles on it. I know the dealer wouldn't give me what I wanted for it, but if I listed it for 10k, it would be gone today.

I would most certainly sell privately, verses a dealer.

My 05 dodge has 210,000. It had 120,000 when I bought it. I don't consider it to be much at all on the motor.. it was on the transmission with what I was pulling though lol.

It really isn't about the engine. They can all go 500,000 or some will only go 50,000 miles. Wear and tear on the rest of the components on a vehicle is what really adds up. Tie-rod ends, ball joints, shocks, bearings, even door hinges will wear out before some engines. How the truck was maintained is what counts. Not just oil changes either. Regular maintenance on all components makes the difference, even down to the rubber gaskets on the doors.

I have a Nissan Exterra and I love it.  It is 4WD and yes the fuel economy isn't the greatest, but it's not all that bad.  I think I get about 17-18mpg

I have a 03, a 04, a 05, and a 06 Dodge truck. All but the 05 have over 200,000 miles on them. I think it is expected where we live. You have to drive miles to get to civilization LOl They are all well maintained so like everyone has said it depends on how they were maintained. I love all of ours and have not had any issues because of mileage.

Dealers are going to say its high milage, but in all reality with it being a diesel and if youve taken care of it, it will last a long time. of course youre better off selling it outright. id suggest try posting it on DieselSellerz.com... i just bought a powerstroke at a local dealership and they didnt give me squat for my trade in but i expected that.

Just put up my '02 with only 159,000+ yesterday a bit of interest but not a ton. Have it below book now even though it is in really good shape and the few who have called want it for dirt cheap.

Are 2001 ford diesel has  260k miles on it and the engine is strong but you are right it is all the other things that start going wrong ! We put a new transmission in it 3k, new fuel injectors for 3k, wiring harness, several different moduals all in the past year ! We just picked it up yesterday had to have a fuel inj sensor put in it ! We have also replced a bunch of little things like water pump, fuel pump, ect ! I will stop there ! LOL ! Parts wear out ! But on a good note the mechanic said the engine was still strong !
