Location: PNW | I am currently riding in a CJ by Cactus with a Biofit pad. But I think I could have a better fitting set up. So what do you have that works on the shark-fin horses? Measurements, brands, pad of choice, etc.
Thanks!!!! |

Location: NC | I had a vet/chiropractor that told me the Pro Riders were good for these type horses. Not as good of quality as a Caldwell of course but maybe a cheaper option... |

I ride CJ Cactus saddles and I love them. My daughter got a higher withered FDD Gdaughter and the CJ's won't work on her. We got Emily a Cactus Brandi Halls and it fit like a glove on the new mare. |

What are the measurements on your BH? My CJ is just too wide/flat :( but it is my favorite saddle in the universe |

My Pro Rider worked (mare is retired now) great on my high withered appendix mare. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Oh Lord I'm not sure. Its got FQHB but has a straighter gullet whereas like you mentioned the CJ is wide and flat. Its also got a higher gullet. We use 5 Star pads, a 3/4 works best on this mare. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | A young woman at the Ed clinic this weekend brought her horse over real quick for a saddle fit question...She brought him over carrying the saddle, a Double J brand one and a Classic Equine pad with fleece on the bottom. Ed took one look at the horses back and was like "Oh Lord!" but then he put the saddle on without the pad and checked it all over and told her "You know this fits pretty darn good!" I think he was shocked, he did tell her to take a quilted leg wrap and fold it and lay it over the dish that the big withers created right behind them and that she should also take an old wool pad and build an ortho pad for his shoulders too, but as far as the withers and the rest of the back he was very impressed with how it fit. |

I had an old Double J CJ saddle that I sadly outgrew a few years ago so I sold it. That fit some higher withered horses so dang good.. Now I've lost the weight and wished like heck I had that saddle back. They are harder then heck to find. I've never had any luck with the newer Double J's though. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Also, horse had maybe even a higher wither set than the horse that someone posted a pic of and then thinner thru the back with a really big shoulder also....Like I said, Ed was truly surprised it seemed when he put that saddle on and slid it back to wear it naturally wanted to ride the back and felt up under there. |

I would look on BHW, Cragislist, and Barrel Saddle for Sale on Facebook. Good news for you is the TG, in my exsperience is one of the easier ones to find used at a decent price. Also sometimes the Caldwell website will have some used ones for sale. |
