While looking at some other videos from Brazil i saw one of Chiseled in Stone. from what i understood he'd had an accident of some sort. They had a wrap supporting a bandage where the girth would go and he had a plaque of edema on his belly. Anyone know what happened. Looked like video was from 2011.

I don't think anyone says they starve them. But I know the one we had that was sold to Brazil was dead within a few months of being exported. They said sand colic and they just don't have the surgical facilities over there.

I'm remembering some parasite they catch too so these stories you all posted are sad and tragic.   It's the way I feel when any of us lose a horse we love or is talented and proven.  .  Don't get me wrong.  I would much rather our exceptional horses stay in the states but posted this because they seemed to take awesome care.

The stress of quarantine and flying a horse to live on the equator is tremendous ... not to even mention the total change over in types of hay and feed that is available to the new arrivee's ...

Then you look at too much care and attention to every detail to keep them looking their best gets the same results here in the USA .... this over attention has caused a lot of stallions health problems ... as our grandmothers used to tell our Mom's ... a little dirt and mud puddles makes for a healthy kid ..... same is true for horses ... lol

I see your point.  The thing though is everyone marketing a horse is pressured to keep them looking incredible.  There have even been posts on here kind of dissing sale horses or stallions for not looking like a million bucks.  It's a da---d if you do and da--d if you don't situation.

I totally agree with you!!

It is very similar to what race track and barrel racers say.... A horse only has so many superb runs so pick and choose the events you enter them in .......... and don't wear them out needlessly practicing all the time ...

I think there are only so many days/years a horse can stand 23 hours /day in a stall being a glutton and not have something serious happen to him ..... fat horses are more prone to colic, internal problems and feet problems than a slim almost skinny looking horse.

I think the human mind is warped .....

We admire slim women and men actors that send our hearts to thumping ...........

then we go buy all kinds of fat and weight gain products to pile the weight on our naturally slim athletic horses to send their hearts to thumping and lungs to wheezing .. ... I guess it is those fall over dead good looks we are trying to achieve ???!!!

I admire big bodied horses but only with healthy flesh covering their frames, but have to admit I had never looked at the correlation you made.   Sure makes sense.   My horses have always had to wander the 5 acre house pasture or be kept up in two adjoining 60 x 60 pens... they only know stalls from the track or the overnight barrel races so they know dirt.  Lol!
