If she was vaccinated and didn't get a kick or injury I would say her progesterone levels were too low. Some mares that tend to have low hormones have to be maintained on Regumate to maintain the pregnancy. The embryo provides the hormones at first and then the mares begins producing them. That's why some mares abort around 3 to 6 months. Been out of breeding a few years now but that's, it in a nut shell. If you brdsd her next year check her hormones beginning Around 2 months

If you brdsd her next year check her hormones beginning Around 2 months now that you mention it you reminded me- When my mare slipped the first time, we cultured her before breeding her the next season and she was dirty. On top of it, since she slipped, we went ahead and had her on regumate for 100 days of her pregnancy. She foaled a healthy colt. Her second pregnancy we had her on regumate for the first 50 days and she was fine to come off.

I keep my change in my pockets Posts: 2985 Location: MN	I guess I should've added does the afterbirth look like it is all there. I thought it was complete but the vet said it was a small piece that was still inside the mare.

I took the fetus to the college where they neocropsied it. They could not find a reason. All they could tell me was it was NOT Rhino. I don't vaccinate bacause I've had mares abort after vaccinating for Rhino. She aborted in February. I waited until her second cycle after aborting and bred her back. She foaled a perfect filly. So sorry for your loss. I do not give the Rhino vaccine either. Me either.
