Daily use of Acid Buffer Product
Expert
Posts: 5290
I just ordered a liquid product that contains Calcium/Magnesium. Its labeled for daily use at 1oz AM/PM to prevent ulcers by neutralizing acid etc. I called the company and they said it is ok to give daily and you can double dose during times of stress. From the articles I have read it suggests that horses need, and do, produce acid 24/7 to help with digestion. Will long term use lead to undigested food going into a horse's digestive tract?? 1oz is very small amount but just making sure. I leave grass hay in front of them 24/7 and feed a low starch/sugar feed. Will also add that the research shows that such products only last 1/2 to 3 hours in the horse's system. Seems like for it to do any real good you would need to use it like 8x a day. ANy experiences? Thanks!

I am also interested to hear what others say.. I also am starting mine on Ulc-R-Aid with Colostrashield made by AniMed. It is for everyday use and fits my price range.

Yea, the product I use is Ulsershield from Choice of Champions. I really like it! I was hoping to hear from some folks who have been using it full time. Thanks!
