I'm wondering what the tax payers in "your" state are having to give up to cover this budget deal?

Lee: Utah to Lose $32 Million in Budget Deal

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Mike Lee announced that under the recent Senate-House budget deal, the state of Utah would lose approximately $32 million in payments from the federal government.

Under the Mineral Leasing Act, the federal government leases federal land for the development of energy, minerals and other materials, and shares the revenue with the states in which the leases are held.  The revenue is currently split evenly between the states and the federal government.  Section 302 of the budget deal would only decrease what the states receive, leaving the federal portion intact. That would mean a total reduction of $415 million for the states, with roughly $32 million coming from Utah.

“It is unfortunate that the budget targets the mineral leasing program,” said Sen. Lee, who sits on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. “Many of Utah’s rural communities depend on this funding and we shouldn’t be pulling the rug out from under them when there are so many other wasteful and ineffective programs in the federal government to reform.”

I'm beyond shocked that we feel so helpless to stop this.
How about everyone else? What's going on in your state?
Thanks!

we have hardly any federal land so i don't know where our contribution is coming from....the 'deal' isn't much of a deal......honestly, i don't have a problem with this if every other little thing would start being cut

I can see where those who aren't directly affected don't give a hoot...you see, that $32 million is already part of Utah's budget so it'll have to be 'made up' by Utahns.  I'm guessing the rest of you will find out soon enough how hard you'll be hit by our squandering federal gov't.
We're having a land war here...and, although many of you don't see how THAT affects you, consider the $412 million that the fed steals from us every year that goes into the coffers for the rest of you...I'm sure most don't see it as stealing & will do all they can to prevent losing it, but, right is right...
Just curious if the other Senators are keeping their constituents abreast of the truth.  This isn't a federal budget cut in any way...it's a state budget cut.

Everybody except the politicians will have to bite the bullet to pay for all the spending they have done. The whole country.. Not just Utah...

That's my question...'how' is this affecting other states?  It's not as if they're using this money to pay down our debt, it's to keep doing what got us here.  It's not going to fix anything.
