Full brother to Easy Jet. Most of his offspring could run but grandget often could not. I had a friend that had a son of Jet Smooth and nothing that he produced could run at all. I guess it probably depended on which son the offspring was by. Streakin Six was a descendent of Easy Jet. So the Easy jet offspring basically improved down the line. Probably the same easy going disposition as Easy Jet horses. Jet Smooth would have to be so far back on a horse's papers now that it would not have much influence.

Also, Smooth Herman, World Champion cutting horse was by Jet Smooth.

I think Walter Merrick, himself, joked about that question, didn't he?

I had a grandson on the top side.  He was the most awesome pleasure horse my kids could ask for when they were little.  That gelding won them more Grands in 4-H and lots of wins in open shows.  Couldn't run a lick.

My question too!  I don't think they were actually full brothers.  I had a son of Jet Smooth.  Lovely good looking horse, easy to train but he had no speed.  Now the Easy Jet horses I had could run a hole in the wind.

The local rumor was JET SMOOTH was by SUGAR BARS and EASY JET was by JET DECK .. Bud Warren stood both stallions.
They were out of the same mare.

If you look at the produce of JET SMOOTH you will see that this could be very true ... his get were totally different than those by EASY JET ... and performed in the arena's just like a SUGAR BAR would ...

There were hard feelings between Merrick and Warren over the years and a lot of people wanted to connect the death of JET DECK by an overdose of barbiturates to this local feud ....

Have had a dozen or so but it has been a long time since I found a close up bred one . Most are fairly slow to catch on. Very little buck in any. Most can run but with most any blood line, you run into the dink every so often.

They seem to really last and stay sound. My old head horse turned 28 this year and I did use him a few times last year. No issues and has been several 100k miles. Was a top futurity horse a long, long time ago. Have a few others get into their mid 20s before they faultered.

The best thing I noticed with this line, is that once they figure out what you want, they will die trying and very, very seldom try to cheat. Can get a little "hot" if they get confused.

Good luck!

My very first barrel horse was a 17 year old own son of jet smooth and grandson of hempen. He was by far the best all around horse we ever owned. He wasn't the fastest but was consistent and had a head full of sense. He had originally came from the track and actually stayed in one family until we bought him. The man who sold him to us would show up at our farm early in the mornings just to visit him. He was my once in a lifetime. Sadly he we lost him to colic when he was 20.

I have a great grandson of Jet Smooth.  Granted I know its a ways back but I would say he is anyhing but slow.  He is probably one of the fastest and quickest horses I have ever ridden.  Yes his top side does play a big part in that but it isn't all that is in him.  I know his top side is fabulous so maybe that makes up for that on the bottom?

I have always heard that Jet Smooth was by Sugar Bars. And..........I've also heard that Easy Jet was by the TB Good Bird, not Jet deck.

I had a little mare with Jet Smooth bloodlines. Loved that mare more than any thing. She was smart, quick, could turn on a dime and was NOT slow. Maybe she was a fluke.
