I need someone who knows a lot about Thoroughbreds! I am looking at a filly...her name is Memos Star and her pedigree is at: http://www.pedigreequery.com/memos+star Can someone tell me if from her papers she is worth a shot? I will also try to attach some pics. Thanks a bunch :)

The owner said she is the low man on the totem pole so she is a little hungry looking.

I think she is a nice filly. She has a solid pedigree. Foolish Pleasure. Buckpasser. Nashrulla. Bold Ruler. I don't see any holes on either side. Plus she looks nice! If she has a mind, is a pretty mover -- why not give her a chance!!!!

I know nothing about the pedigree except Bold Ruler. But she is super cute and looks to be built nicely. If she's sane and sweet I'd give it a shot!

Check her out on Equibase.com

Her sire was a very successful race horse and her dam raced over 50 times. I would definitely give her a chance.

I'm watching her equibase videos right now. It seems like she always starts out strong and then peters out at the end. In her last race she somehow wound up way in the back and then I believe that eased her off. I am not familiar with horse racing so why would they ease her off?

Wow, it is extremely hard to find a TB without Native Dancer. Her DI and CD shows she is bred more towards speed than distance. Her sire and dam's number of starts speaks volumes for soundness. I would certainly try her as a prospect and then add her to my broodmare band.

Not always, but typically because the jock feels something "off", or they have no shot of being 1-4. No reason to push them. Seeing as this was her last race, I would say something felt "off".

She's cute, her pedigree got a few nice horses on it, but vet check, vet check, vet check..........

Eta- spend the money to get her scoped. When they drop off in the stretch, tray can be a sign of bleeding, lung infection, ect if its not a soundness issue.

That totally makes sense. Thank you for your information. I remember watching a video on a racehorse with an issue with his wind pipe. Your post reminded me of that so thank you. We always have to be aware of those things.

That is exactly what I was thinking of doing with her! I watched all of her races on equiline and to me she seems like a sprinter. She was pretty much always no further back than fourth throughout the beginning of the race then after she turns the corner she loses steam. But she was always one of the first to blast to the front at the start. Now I just have to convince my husband I need her!!! Wish me luck :)

Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it. Why is it that we don't see more Thoroughbreds in barrel racing?

I was always told if their CD is 1 or above that they make a better sprinter so should make a better barrelhorse.  Hers is a 1.0  I would get her checked out and give her a chance.   Foolish Pleasure was the colt that ran in the match race with Ruffian when she broke down.
