I have a 5 year old mare. She ran all year in a heavy o ring twisted snaffle.

She will slow work in it perfectly. But with added speed it isn't enough. I have no lift.

She is very fast. in and out style. More of a free runner. Not bendy.

What do you recommend for a bit. I have tried jr cow horse at a rodeo recently and she liked it. But then I switched back to the snaffle. I don't want to go to anything harsh or long shanked. In small pens she works great in her snaffle.

Why did you swap back out of the jr cow horse? The ones I've seen have t been long shanked at all?

What about an o-ring combo bit? Add nose pressue rather than leverage?

Check out some of these Molly Powell bits. I have the rookie bit but there are others on here that would probably fit your bill. http://www.mollypowell.com/products-bits.html

I have had pretty good luck with the Jr cowhorse bit. I also like the Goosetree with the Dr Bristol mouth. It has a lot of gag action, but if you have soft hands, it is a really really light bit and great for picking up the shoulder.

I wanted to back off and go back to the basics. So I kept her in the snaffle. Now she's running too fast and it's like the bit isn't even there. I didn't mean the jr cow horse is long shanked lol just happened to put that after the sentence.

What type of o ring combo? That could very well work! I don't have any, so I would have to buy one.

I like dutton OC shank for this, its great for keeping/getting bend. if your horse is already "bendy" the teardrop shank is a good one. you can get any mouthpiece you want in it.

I concur, I would start with that exact goostree.  Be aware that you can put a chin strap but you do not have to, also, the goostree's have advanced bits too like the CG or the double gag, as they get more solid and powerful you have something to advance in to if needed.
