I know there been so many posts on this but I didn't want to steal any threads .. So I had many people suggest treating my mare for ulcers .. I'm thinking maybe I should.. Just hate the extra expense .. But I will do it if it needs done . The horse is 6 yr old , very nervous type horse .. Screams for other horses all the time even if you just take one out of the stall & have her right in front of her.. Or I will take one out and ride & she screams .. It's extremely annoying .. It doesn't matter what horse it is either ! She doesn't even have to know them.. I put them on dry lots with hay, they are in separate lots so nobody beats one another up , she is right by 1 horse usually even 2 but paces the fence line like crazy like they are miles away .. When I bought her she ate grain great but now it takes her forever to eat.. She grabs a bite and looks around or goes over to make sure my other horse is still there then back to take a bite .. Shes a very hard keeper .. in 5 months I have finally gotten her ribs mostly covered but still could use some weight .. she still looks a bit sucked up & still slightly see a rib when you look at her right . shes been on quality high fat feed since ive owned her.3 months on ultium, now on TC senior . It's been annoying the crap out of me.. I've had her 5 months now .. She's a very hot horse to ride .. Gets excited at the gate at barrel races but never refuses to go in . So my question is do you think it's ulcer related ? Or just very buddy sour like nature intended ? I was thinking of the ulcercure OTC.. read alot of good about it! any ever use it on a horse like this ? Sorry for the long post !!

I think she could be causing herself ulcers from being so anxious! Geez. I would treat her for ulcers just as a precaution and then get her on some calming just to help her to relax. I would give her THE GastroPlus for a month then put some THE Calming Powder in her feed daily and THE Calming Cookies. And if that doesn't help I would recommend a horse psychiatrist or a goat to keep her company. Good luck! That is a tough one!

Thanks ! I figured I had a weird one .. I've never seen nothing like this horse in my life !! If she wasn't a 1 d horse she'd have been down the road by now lol I definitely agree with her causing herself ulcers .. Bc there is no reason for her to be so anxious !! I notice when there nobody outside in the barn she doesn't pace .. It's really when commotion is going on outside or you are in the barn .. But she does it way too obnoxiously lol maybe I will try a calming supplement .. I just don't want to take the fire out of her run.. In the summer she is much better bc they go out on pasture together instead of separate . So maybe just for the winter months ... As nutty as she is when you are at a barrel race and I take her buddy away she actually isn't too bad .. As where i would think that would totally freak her out . She's so weird !!

I am going to try as soon as I can order just waiting for my paycheck. I had a mare start having problems on Christmas and I am pretty sure it is ulcer related. I have to get her healed up and have heard good things about this product.

Ulser Shield really works. I have a horse alot like your describing. It changed him completely.  Not to mention how amazing they hold weight and improves coat and hoof condition.  www.choiceofchamps.com   you can save 10% and Free shipping with coupon code   cockk  .. in the promo section.

Ulser Shield begins to neutralize acid on contact.

A mucosal protector, Magnesium and Calcium form a barrier over the mucosal lining. Calcium Carbonate reduces the acidity of the stomach and helps promote proper digestion and nutrient absorption. Polydimenthylsiloxane, an anti-gas, helps reduce trapped air in mucous, which may be associated with equine ulsers.

If your horse displays poor appetite, mild to severe colic, poor condition, attitude changes and poor training performance, you may be seeing the early signs of an ulcer. Add Ulser Shield to your horses daily diet and early treatment may prevent the use of Gastro Guard. Ulser Shield is a marvelous maintenance for horses following a course of Gastro Guard.

INGREDIENTS:

Preservatives
 Magnesium Oxide
 Calcium Carbonate
 Polydimethylsiloxane

New Size!
Available by the quart ($20.00), half gallon ($35.00) or gallon $60.00

I can attest to the change, my horse doesn't pace anymore, but, I'm convinced he's had the ulcers for a looooong time so some habits are hard to get over.  The one I know for sure that changed, runny poop-no more after 30 days of the ulcercure, now, I'm trying to figure out what to do to keep them away
