Location: Central Texas | I need recommendations on couch and loveseat fabric. I have a microfiber couch right now that is not holding up well with my 3 Great Danes. I was looking at getting a leather living room set but was curious as to what is the best kind. And what the heck does "bonded leather" mean?? |

| This is what I found on bonded leather: Bonded leather or reconstituted leather is a term used for a popular upholstery material, which uses natural leather leftovers that are bonded back into larger pieces. The base upon which the reconstituted leather is applied is a strong fiber, and the mix can have varying degrees of organic leather - between 100% to 60% while the rest is polyurethane. The larger hides have the appearance and the smell of organic leather, but at reduced cost and with less wastage compared to organic grown leather.
We bought a loveseat and sofa set from a resale site. It's not 100% pure leather though becausev we haven't gotten ANY scratches on it with a dog and 2 cats - so I'm not sure what all is in the material. I think you can ask someone at a furniture store about "scratch-resistant" leather and they'd know what to point you to. |

Location: Central Texas | I am open to other materials as well just not sure what is the most durable with dogs that weigh in at 177lbs, 150lbs, and 120lbs. I have been looking on craigslist and seeing terms such as natuzzi leather, Italian leather, bomber leather just wasn't sure if any of those would be a good idea. I even saw one that was actual hair on cowhide....while I think it looked really cool I'm not sure I would want to sit on it every day LOL. |

Location: Carpenter, WY | My bassets LOVE their new Serta Memory foam dog beds and it keeps Fred off the sofa and recliner. I found them on Overstock for around 50 each and they are large enough for a couple of bassets to lay on comfortably so they would work for a Grt Dane

Location: North Dakota | My dogs aren't allowed on my furniture. Problem solved...lol. Once in awhile the toy Aussie will hop up and snuggle with us but they are never allowed to just sit up there on their own. The huskie is never allowed on the couch. They have their own beds behind the couch under the sofa table which is perfect because they feel safe and like they have their own spot and they are out of the way. |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | Love that you have 3 Great Danes! I had 2 rescue Danes in the past (one was deaf) and they are one of the best dog breeds! Hubby doesn't want something that big in the house so I had to switch to something smaller. When I had my dogs I had a small thrift store love seat for them. They were not allowed on the people couch, just theirs or their dog pillows on the floor. Worked out pretty well. |

| I let my dogs in the house - but they are not allowed on the furniture. On the rare occasion the GWP can get in my lap on my chair. |

| We have the distressed leather from timber creek. I love that I can wipe them down and clean them. We had cloth before and right in front of the couch where the dogs laid was filthy and no matter how much I shampooed it I couldn't get it clean. Same with our floors, hard wood so I can clean it and know that its clean. We have a malamute, red heeler, and English bulldog. the bulldog is disgusting!! |

Location: Central Texas | Yes, we used to have the no dog on the couch rule. Then we got a third couch just for the dog....when we only had one great dane, this worked really well. I never truly intended on having 3 Danes at the same time but things happened and now I do, and they don't all fit on one couch. Nor will they all fit on the floor in the living room. The biggest Dane is also the oldest and she has a hard time getting up off the hard wood floors the next one is partially blind and has some hip issues....so basically I'm a softie and we end up with one dog and one human on each couch in the evenings.

Location: BFE, Idaho | I have the heavy slick scratch resistant leather, it is 20 years old and the darn thing looks new. It has survived many dogs, and is now the crash place for one teenager, one GreatDane/St.Bernard cross, and one toy aussie.
Weights: 130lb, 125lb, and 9lbs.
Although the older the Dane gets he is just a year old, he has moved down to his huge pillow to stretch out.
I was looking into the micro fiber but cannot find any long term owners. |

Location: Kansas | I gave up on finding a couch fabric that worked with dogs. I also have 3 Danes and I found it's easier to get a very large cowhide and throw it over the couch. I shake it out and vaccum the dog hair. Besides the couch is theirs and I get the recliners.

Location: Never in one place long | We have all leather so the dog hair doesn't stick on anything... car, couch etc BUT we don't let our dogs on our coach/chairs.. they have their own bed and they like them. We want our stuff to last but if we let 4 dogs jump all over it it will wear it out. We only let ours on our bed with us. I'd recommend leather and get a cover for it if you're going to allow pets on it. :) |

Our Microfiber couch has lasted about 7 yrs but now it HAS to be covered with blankets because we have had two seems come apart completely in the seats. The super thick leather is what I was thinking we should look for but I don't know what the technical term/name is that I should be searching for. |

Love the picture!! Sometimes our two youngest Danes will curl up together like that, always makes me laugh because because it just seems like there are feet everywhere. Our older dane is a grouch and won't share her couch with the other two. I do keep blankets on the couches but never thought of a hide...good idea. I know nothing is going to be Dane proof so I will probably never spend the money to buy NEW furniture again.....at least not while I have 3 Danes. |

Location: Iowa, LA | I bought a microfiber sofa and love seat in dark brown that has lasted 10 years. No tears and pretty easy to clean and cheap. But two weeks ago I decided I was tired of getting sinus headaches from taking naps on the couch with my pups and went out and bought a leather sofa and love seat that cost 3x what I paid for the microfiber. If I didn't have dust mite allergies I would have bought another microfiber. It's been through several Great Danes, a Doberman, and a lab mix. I do keep a sheet on it to make it easier to clean, but for what I paid it's been a good set. |
