Location: Bandera, TX | Those that live up on top a hill give me all the downsides of living there. I've always been a valley, by the creek type. Looking to build and I found a pretty spot that you can see for miles. |

Location: Texas | Our last house was on a hill. Soil was really rocky. View was pretty. All water runoff seemed to flood the barn. A lot of that was due to setup, so keep that in mind if you decide to build. Good and bad: when it rained super hard, we dried out faster than lower areas. Great when we were getting rain. Bad when we were dry. |

Location: North Dakota | Living on a hill makes you a better roper! Hardly any mosquitoes/flies, but, snow piles up in weird places, we had to move some trees around, the previous owners had planted trees on the east and north sides, not sure what they were thinking but the wind comes from the northwest most all the time, we moved almost all those trees to the north west and what a difference it makes! The views are great-my neighbors say I can easily spy on them  |

| plus others have said, its always windy and its hard to find a flat enough place for an arena and you always have to do a lot of dirt work before you build anything. |

Location: Southwest Minnesota | We built our house on a hill in what used to be a cow pasture. It does get windy here but I love the wind...a true prairie girl. The upside to that is we do not have the problems with mosquitos and flies that others do. It is tough to get stuff to grow here because it is more harsh here. I have a phenomenal view of the river and valley and wouldn't trade that for anything. The horses are less excited about grazing the hillsides than the flat places but they do get used to it. Our well cost us double the original estimate. They hit water at 180' but wouldn't guarantee the supply so the digger kept going. Our well is 525' deep but our water is good and plentiful. We designed the house so that everything is on one level and the doorways and hallway are wide enough for a wheelchair should it ever come to that. Here are some pics of my view...

Location: Oz, Kansas | I live at the top of a hill & hate it. The view is pretty but the wind is horrible & the water washes all my gravel down into the pasture. There's no place flat enough to use for an arena and you're always walking up hill. My next place will be flat or flatter. It is great for sledding as long as you stop before you get to the creek.

Location: In my own world | Some of it will probably depend on the type of hill you live on. I live on the top of a river bluff. My driveway stinks!! We either have to have AWD or 4x4 to get up and down. It's pretty steep. If you find a hill with a slow grade that will be better. Mine is trouble when it snows. You have to have a special set of driving skills an balls to live where I do. Many of my visitors freak out the first time they visit. Wind is awful. Our trampoline has been through hell and blown all over. This last time it got lifted up and sat on a steel post and ripped the black part. It's toast now. Put your drive on the south side to help with snow melt if that is an issue |

Location: SE Louisiana | My home back in Missouri is at the top of a hill and I love it!! Breeze in the hot months.. Never have to worry about a flood.. (unless you have a neighbor named Noah)!!! Great view of the country around you.. BEST PLACE TO LIVE !! |
