GoinJettin - 2014-02-16 5:28 PM I haven't started working on mine yet.  I file an EZ form so it usually just takes a couple of hours with online software.  I have an extra $10 taken out of each paycheck to go towards taxes.  Not enough to miss it but hopefully enough to add up to keep from paying in.

I don't think ANYONE should receive ANY deductions for having children.  It is a choice people make to have them, they shouldn't receive tax breaks because of it.  If you can't afford them then don't have them.  There are a lot of other tax breaks people and businesses get that should just get removed from the tax laws too IMO.
We have 4 kids and I agree with you. It is about choice and personal responsibility for he choices you make.

I think you are mixing apples and oranges here.......people may take deductions for their children just like MANY of you take deductions for your "horse" activities......that is your choice too. I guess we could say, if you can't afford your horses without taking deductions, you shouldn't HAVE them! That would make more sense.

The OVER PAYMENT  ( receiving more than what is paid in) is a result of the Earned Income Credit, which has been in effect since 1975. This part of the tax law is the problem NOT the regular deductions for dependents although, the more dependents you have the more you get.  The Earned Income Credit should be abolished.

I agree about the EIC.  I don't understand how this is justified.  Deductions make sense.  Getting more "refund" than you paid in does not.

I work 5-6 days a week, sometimes two or three weeks straight with no time off. Average around 120-130 hours a pay period (every two weeks). It seems the more money I make, and the more effort I put into it, the more they seem to think i should pay them in taxes. I file single, and don't have any kids.....havent seen a tax return over $50 in four years :(
