| Just adopted mine yesterday. I have had several pits through the year, but my Annica is by far the smartest little cookie I have ever seen!!!! She is too smart and too cute for her own good!!! |

| My brother brought home a pitbull (Staffordshire) and he is the sweetest most loving dog on the universe, he isn't neutered either! We raised him from a puppy, and treated him just like any other dog. Plenty of exercise and lots of love kept him normal as could be! He did have a habit of running off across our pasture and would be gone for hours so we invested in a shock collar... we only shocked him once and from then on just "beeped" at him and he was a little saint. He knows when he is wearing the collar and always acts on his best behavior with it on! |

| I believe as with any animal socialization. I also believe that ignorant people are the cause of the over population, stereotype dog. We have a Staffordshire Terrier which I believe the pit came from. A lot of people act really ugly when "Remy" is with me because they think she is a Pit. She was fixed at 5 months old but has raised every puppy in the house and also our stud horse. For those that have been to our place knows that Lil Monster (horse) actually thinks he is a dog. Remy has slept with my son the past 4 years. I don't treat her any different than we treat the yorkie, frenchie or boston. She gets along better with other animals more so than the Frenchies. But like I said she has been well socialized. She has been a part of our family not a "protective" symbol to our family.

Location: Kansas | We used to have a pit about two years ago. I absolutely loved her she was super sweet and full of energy. We had to get rid of her because she started trying to kill our goats. I think if we would have got her as a pup we would have had no problems but we got her at about a year and a half from my brother who didn't have farm animals. I still want to get another one as they are great dogs!

| Glad to hear good stories from everyone! He was having some tummy trouble at first and destroying my house and I was wondering what the heck I had gotten myself into, but that has cleared up. He seems to be incredibly smart for such a young puppy as well as super friendly. His name is Bodee!

| We got our Pit when she was 7 months. She is the friendliest dog ever. Do advise: always have a happy environment, reward HUGE when good, and be VERY firm when bad, socialize lots, and do not keep it out of uncomfortable situations, keep them in it and teach them a proper reaction that is positive.
Do Not: play the 'go git it' game with them... they tend to like to chase things if you do. Mine is perfectly fine with the horses, unless they are running, she will chase them if I am not paying attention as they seem to get VERY excited easily and get 'in the moment' She is disiplined enough to stop when she is told... I have done enough training with her that 'most' of the time I can snap her out of 'the moment' with my voice.
My catahoula on the other hand... I would have done a few things more socially with her, she is the one to watch with strangers.... |
