Diane - I guess I am trying to steal the thread here - but I have a question about Special Joe Bars, "Joe" how big was he? I know I stood next to him once but I was just thinking about him today and wondering.

Also, I am an older rider.  I am 59 and will be 60 this year.  I am trying to get back into barrel racing.  I started when I was 14 and have run off and on, although not much in the past few years but I have kept my horses and currently have 4, one trained, one started, one injured and one not started.

In her interview about the American, I thought she said he was 16.2

I'm up there. I went to a clinic with Ardith Bruce presenting. She is in her 80's and still running in tough competition. I hope t0 be doing that when I get that old. I will die with my boots on. Work out and eat right you'll find your only as old as your mind. I love you pony in your avatar

I am old as dirt and I have no intentions of quitting.  I have a trailer load of nice, young horses and I can't wait for it to warm up so I can start hauling them.   One that knows what is going on that should win something if I get out of the way-and the rest are so talented I can;t wait.
Love the quote-Age is just a number!   I just hope I can keep from breaking something this spring so I can finally get healed up and get to play my favorite game.    Barrel racing should keep us all young if we don't  go crazy from the ups and downs of it.

Frodo - 2014-03-01 2:26 PM  I'm also in my 60's but didn't quit because of lack of desire to ride.  It's the barrel races.  Standing around all day waiting to run got to be more than I could endure.  When I'm running one and somebody shows up with a trailerload of horses and gets to run them all ahead of me, that's it, I'm done.  They can have it.

This is why I just enter the local JPs these days - I too, have better things to do than sit at a race for 6 hours waiting to make one run.

Dancing in my Mind

I'm 45 and have ridden my whole life.. The problem I have now is no matter how bad I want to return to the arena (competition) I have panic attack when trying to go faster. When your younger you have NO Fear of getting hurt you bounce back faster when you do. Me I am still nursing the injury I received in December. and the fear got a lot bigger.

I am 43 and the same. My heart still wants to in the worst way but my mind is controlling the rest of my body. I still enjoy riding though and plan to do that as long as I can. I thought last summer I could move past it all but now my daughter has my horse and I am a sideline cheerleader.
