Get your animals vaccinated!! I live around Stephenville, and killed a rabid skunk in my horse pasture. And there's been 4 rabies cases in Stephenville.

It's been bad here
( central Texas
) last three years. Vet called us two years ago some horse come back positive about five miles down the road from us. Lady had been " home treating" it for a week and had no idea it was rabies. Couple months ago a guy picked up a cat that had been hit by a car and it bit him on the way to the vet. Since it was a stray when it died they sent the head in for testing per regulations not thinking anything of it It came back positive.
( client is in animal control so between my vet and her we are kept in the loop thank God
) like F1 said. Keep those critters vaccinated! If one
( like feral barn cat
) comes back positive the whole barn is in quarantine even if everything else had rabies vaccinations. Good shooting F1!

I live in E Tx. Rabies is a serious problem here too.
We used to hunt in central TX and the rancher's granddaughter's horse got rabies. Three people had to have rabies shots. This was about a $30,000 horse and was about 1990. so it is not a new problem. I have been giving my horses rabies shots since then.
