I won the first Invitational Arabian Barrel Race at the US Arabian Nationals a kazillion years ago and I swear the  Arabian gelding I rode learned the barrels by watching others run the pattern, he was SO smart and willing!  The owners asked me if I wanted to continue with him and rodeo with him after the Nationals and it broke my heart to tell them that he wouldn't be competitive on the pro-rodeo circuit.  Perhaps a Quarab with the right QH breeding would be successful, but there are few Arabians/Half Arabians that can match the speed and power of most Quarter Horses...but there are exceptions to every breed and always those that don't fit the normal sterotype.  I haven't ridden an Arab in over a decade but they are still the breed of my heart.  Good luck!!

If you are serious about being competitive, it may not be the way to go. If you do choose to purchase a quarab look for a big booty. I've ran a couple arab crosses and I feel they don't pick up speed as quickly between the barrels. Arabs are quick, but were used for distance. Quarter horses pick up speed quickly-hence the name-they are good at short distance. Most important choose what fits best for you and have fun!!! Heres my quarab

I have seen several Arabians and Quarab at local jackpot shows, mostly with youth riding them. They really held their own, especially at poles and other playday events where tight turns were needed. Depending on what you are wanting to do, I would take a chance on one.
